I thought I'd better pull this over from the other thread because it was really a digression there.

Mike, you've rightly railed against people thinking their personal choices are meaninful in a larger context, that if someone gives a dollar or votes for DK or does something else that it's good enough.

How do you square that completely valid criticism with someone else's personal choice to put on a soldier suit and go kill people who've never done the killer or their family any harm? Why isn't that a reprehensible personal choice raised inappropriately to the status of Noble Cause? Why isn't that worse than the pointless, but at least peaceful, 'politics of personal choice' (I don't remember your actual phrase, except that it was better than this one)?
