Let them fight for strong labor laws and safety regulations in their own country. That's what our predecessors did here in America.

I and my fellow workers have been paying taxes and working our asses off for decades. I'm not ashamed of the fact that I expect a good carpenter in my area to make $20 an hour plus decent benefits. I'm not ashamed of the fact that I resent seeing illegal immigrants working for $8 an hour with no benefits doing jobs that my American citizen friends who are now laid off from their jobs could be doing.

And for the reasons you outlined in that thread. Though the line between racism and xenophobia can be blurry, this guy embraces them both enthusiastically. Mike's said everything there is to be said in that thread.

...it is hard to say whether it is racist, although it is a pretty good guess. It is certainly anti-worker, the ideology of a scab. What it really says is this:

"Once upon a time, workers in this country fought for the demands of labor and I attribute the improvement of my condition to that previous solidarity. Since then, I have abandoned that perspective, identify with the national loyalties of my employer and ignore my own connection and responsibility to the workers of all countries. Instead, I view them as competitors and resent their competition. I expect my employers to protect me from them, based on the narrowly national identity I have adopted."

Not only does that make this statement reactionary, but it also exposes its infinite stupidity.

Here is the way that the issue is stated in a class-conscious manner:

"The French socialist workers, in adopting as the aim of their efforts the political and economic expropriation of the capitalist class and the return to community of all the means of production, have decided, as a means of organization and struggle, to enter the elections with the following immediate demands...

B.4. Legal prohibition of bosses employing foreign workers at a wage less than that of French workers;"

Choose one of the above... but you only get to choose once.

I looked and I was right. He's already personally offended two good friends of mine over there about their lives. He's a fuckstick. Not surprised to see this attitude from him over there. Over on DU he's a homophobe. I guess he's revealing more of his charms over on OET.

The chauvinism is palpable.

And, in addition, I think that any employer who exploits any worker or group of workers should be jailed (jailed hard) and their property confiscated...
