The Samaritans are essentially a Jewish sect, although Jews have tended to regard them as lower than the Gentiles. Their language is ancient Hebrew and their religion is akin to Judaism, although it does not contain modifications that Jews added over the past 3,000 years, such as the festivals of Purim and Hanukkah. The main difference is that the Samaritans never left the holy lands and they believe Abraham bound his son, Isaac, in preparation for his sacrifice on Mount Gezirim, not on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem.

Despite their similarities, even in the time of Jesus the Samaritans were shunned by the Jews and the two communities were often at war. Now the Samaritans find themselves in the middle of the modern-day war in the holy land. They remain strictly neutral and carry both Palestinian and Israeli identity cards.

The historical enmity between Israelites and Samaritans is very sad but not as sad as the last sentence in your thread.

AngloSaxons have a much longer and deadlier history of acting Chosen and causing, what did you call it, oh yeah, "Satanic" situations. Most White nations have, from England, to France, to Spain, to Belgium... So have the Japanese, so have the Chinese, so have the Hindus, etc... Cutting off the hands of millions of children in the Congo so Europeans could sit around drinking coffee was, I'd say, satanic.

While I believe that Israel learned the wrong lessons from Nazi Germany, it's not like the only two groups who thought they were superior were Nazis and Zionists. Au fucking contraire. I hope I misunderstood what you wrote.

The moral of the Good Samaritan is that we're to help everyone and not judge them by societal constructs.

If you put this story together with the rest of Jesus' teachings, it was always to open your heart and do right, to everyone. His messages don't change depending on the conflict du jour.

Now I'm getting a really peeved reading your last sentence again. Arrogance and pride? What of US arrogance? What of the arrogance and pride, and even worse, greed, of all the First World countries?!

The Israelis are merely following in the ugly footsteps of European colonialists who wiped out BILLIONS of people. They're not one and the same with the Nazis because Nazis R us. Any group that's considered itself "chosen" to rule over others is one and the same with the Nazis. You can't just link it to Israelis and you better not link it to Jews. Especially since not all Jews are Israeli, not all Jews support this injustice and many are fighting to stop the Israeli government's sick conflation of Jews = Israel. You believe the Israeli government? That it represents Jews all over the world after the way it's been denounced by Jews all over the world?

There are days I want to scream. This is one of them.

God bless America, bountiful because we're so good, we've been chosen to be rich and exploit other nations. Surely you can see some resemblence there?

Why do you capitalize the S for Satan and minimize the J in Jews? As a Christian, that's no way to treat the people God choose to bring His message of Fatherly Love to the world. Or is it Christians who are mad because some Christians think they're the New Chosen people after Jesus expanded the circle, changed the requirements

21 Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.”
23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us.”
24 But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
25 But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
26 And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
27 But she said, “Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once. [/quote]

and overturned the rules on "purity" that excluded non-Israelits and made Samaritan Jews the lowest of the low?

In reality, per God, every single human being on this earth has been chosen. We're supposed to see everyone equally. This religious business of fighting over who's chosen and who's not is bloody sibling rivalry.

I hope you think about those things. The least of our brethren perished in a ghastly Holocaust and every Israeli child killed in this conflict is also the least of our brethren. Whatsoever you do...

Think about it... very hard... because the similarity you mentioned extends to all of mankind. Maybe it's time for a great many Christians and Jews, for people all over, to start re-examining the question "Lord who is my neighbor?"

Judea means "land of the Jews," and at the time of Jesus, it was a Roman province with a majority Jewish population. The everyday language was Aramaic, which is related to both Hebrew and Arabic, and the international language, used for interacting with the Romans and other foreigners, was Greek. (That's why the New Testament was written in Greek. It was the fastest way to make the story understandable to the greatest number of people throughout the known world.) Hebrew was used for religious purposes, and Arabic was somewhere way off in the Arabian peninsula.

Today's Palestinians are the descendants of Jews, Canaanites, and whoever else who converted to Islam or Christianity and adopted the Arabic language. It's not as if there was a massive influx of Arabs, but rather a massive influx of Arabic culture.

It's like Egypt. Today's Egyptians are mostly the descendants of the ancient Egyptians, but in daily life, the only remnant of their ancient language is Coptic, the liturgical language of Egyptian Orthodox Christians. Their modern culture is Arabic, but they're the same people.

Tinoire's right. All the characters in the parable of the Good Samaritan are some variety of Jewish. Neither Christianity nor Islam existed yet.

Most advocates for the Palestinians are not anti-Jewish, but a few, including some here on PI, cross the line. There are many, many Jews of good conscience who condemn the Israeli treatment of the Palestinians. I notice that even my friend with relatives in Israel is awfully quiet these days.

Jesus the Messiah spoke in the Galilean dialect of the Ancient Aramaic language. This is the language in which the disciples and the apostles preached the Gospel and the scribes recorded the Scriptures. The New Testament has been preserved in this sacred, scribal language since the Apostolic Age. The whole Bible was originated in this language. The New Testament Scriptures were already in use in the Ancient Aramaic language for five hundred years before Christianity became the religion of Europe.

good info here of work done in aramaic to english translation

I can't understand the shallow reasoning of Christians who reconcile killing the Living Stones of their own Church, Palestinian Christians, the descendants of the first converts to Christianity,

Millions will be misled...

Thank you Lydia, it's always a pleasure to share with & learn from you.
