Gotta thank brother Junius for this.

“I applied to the CIA and I went all the way to the end, I mean it was to the point where I was going to sign papers to become Clandestine Services,” Moulitsas admits in the interview. “And it was at that point that the Howard Dean campaign took off and I had to make a decision whether I was gonna kinda join the Howard Dean campaign, that whole process, or was I was going to become a spy. (Laughter in the audience.) It was going to be a tough decision at first, but then the CIA insisted that if, if I joined that, they’d want me to do the first duty assignment in Washington, DC, and I hate Washington, DC. Six years in Washington, DC [inaudible] that makes the decision a lot easier.”
Corny as hell but I dedicate this thread to Chlamor and Mike. Too right.

Who is kidding whom?
Up until one moment in time we had a guy with one history - raised in rarefied circles, in one of the wealthy families of the oligarchy in Central America, connections to the right wing juntas, the CIA, the death squads, who was an outspoken right wing writer and speaker for years after he came here, who was fast tracked through the intelligence community, and then POOF! in an instant he suddenly decides to "kinda join the Howard Dean campaign" and from that point on we have an entirely new personality, an entirely new set of political ideas and associations, and wonder of wonders he very quickly has a lot of power and influence, just happens to suddenly have the most influential liberal blog online, gets airtime, hob nobs with the powerful in the party, is immune from all of the struggles that every other online venture experiences?
OK.

His speecifyin' is a classic (http://www.commonwealthclub.org/archive/06/06-06zuniga-audio.html).
My libertarian tendencies have always found a welcome home in the Silicon Valley culture (and in all of the nation’s great technology centers). It is a place where hard work and good ideas trump pedigree, money, the color of one’s skin, nationality, sex, or any of the artificial barriers to entry in most of the rest of the world. It is a techno-utopia that, while oft-criticized for a streak of self-important narcissism, still today produces the greatest innovations in technology in the world. Where else could such a motley collection of school dropouts, nerds, brown people (mostly Indian), and non-Native English speakers (mostly Chinese), not just rise to the top of their game, but dominate it? This is free market activity seemingly at its best, and it works precisely because these individuals are able to take risks and be judged by the results of their work, rather than be judged by who they are, where they’ve been, or who they know.
But there are other reasons why this outpost of libertarianism works. The government has put in an infrastructure to support the region including, among many other things, roads, the Internet, government research grants, and the most important ingredient of all: education, from the lowliest kindergarten to the highest post-doc program. Such spending, while requiring a government bureaucracy that makes a traditional libertarian shudder, actually provides the tools that individuals need to succeed in today’s world. If our goal is to promote and champion individual liberty and the free market, we need government to help provide those tools to all Americans, not just a privileged few. This isn’t a question of equality, it’s one of opportunity. Some people will take advantage of those opportunities, and others will not. That will be up to each individual. But without opportunity, there is no freedom.

At the Yearly Kos Bloggers' Convention, a Sea of Middle-Aged White Males
By Jose Antonio Vargas
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, August 6, 2007; C01
CHICAGO, Aug. 5 -- It's Sunday, day 4 of Yearly Kos, the major conference for progressive bloggers, and Gina Cooper, the confab's organizer-in-chief, surveys the ballroom of the massive McCormick Place Convention Center. A few hundred remaining conventioneers are having brunch, dining on eggs, bagels and sausage.
Seven of the eight Democratic presidential candidates have paid their respects this weekend, and some 200 members of the credentialed press have filed their stories. A mere curiosity just two years ago, the progressive blogosphere has gone mainstream. But Cooper sees a problem.
"It's mostly white. More male than female," says the former high school math and science teacher turned activist. "It's not very diverse."
There goes the open secret of the netroots, or those who make up the community of the Internet grass-roots movement.

Still the family business? (http://www.joyadelpacifico.com/)

The World Bank says, with specific reference to the tourism industry in the area where these hotels, clubs and subdivisions are being constructed,
Tourism in Jaltepeque generates income but has been developed with no coordination, regulation, or management, and has contributed significantly to degrading coastal resources in the area. In the Jiquilisco area tourism has been developed mostly through isolated, local initiatives with no clear promotion or management, leading to environmental problems such as waste and sewage accumulation, disruption of sea turtle laying and hatching by building too close to the beach, disruption of sea bird nesting, and landscape deterioration.
The rapid conversion of mangroves through illegal deforestation and fill operations constitutes a globally important threat.
In an obscure reference in his wedding album, Markos Alberto Moulitsas ZÚÑIGA (M.A.M.Z) recounts the details of his honeymoon, acknowledging that his family is in the tourism business in El Salvador, specifically as owner of the Hotel Suites Jaltepeque, on the banks of the Jaltepeque Estuary. According to MAMZ online wedding album, "The Suites Jaltepeque is our family-owned hotel on El Salvador's Costa del Sol -- the largest uninterrupted beach in Central America. (. . .) The Costa del Sol is sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the Estero (estuary) de Jaltepeque. We also took a boat ride through some of the estuary's channels, and motored through a flock of hundreds of pelicans -- quite the sight!"

Some of us have wondered what Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga (MAMZ) learned at the CIA during his two year "training" period there. SourceWatch.Org Covers Markos C.A. Moulitsas Zuñiga's (MAMZ) connections to the CIA. Well, now it's more clear than ever that his mission is to increase his influence and build "assets" in the "progressive" blogger community, the better to prevent blogging from getting out of control of the Government.
He says:
. . . there are far more more talented folks out there with great ideas and passion for building a broad-based, grassroots-centric progressive movement that toil in anonymity, or give up because of lack of assistance and acknowledgment. It's imperative that we harness that energy and continue infusing our movement with new talent, new ideas, new technologies, new strategies, and new tactics.
( . . . )
So we have teamed up with Bowers to wed his "Take Flight Microgrants" with our own efforts. The goals are two-fold -- provide seed grants to innovative progressives, and provide larger fellowships to those who show the most promise. In addition to the obvious financial benefits for recipients, we hope that our efforts help shine a spotlight on these talented political entrepreneurs and validate their efforts, encouraging them to persist rather than surrender discouraged.
A big difference from the past -- the Kos Fellowship Program is now a 501(c)(3) organization, which means that contributions are tax deductible. We are using the Tides Foundation Tides Center as our fiscal sponsor.
Kos Media, LLC, will support the project with annual grants approaching (or exceeding, if the economy cooperates) six-figures. However, our ability to support the most innovative among us will require a broader fundraising base.
You can contribute here. Remember, all contributions are tax deductible. Consider, if your financial situation allows, a recurring contribution. Even $5/month adds up.
Over the coming week, you'll be hearing more about this program -- about our plans, and about the people who have already been helped. Sure, this isn't as sexy as beating Republicans in an election, and times are tough, but it's an investment in the people that are making our movement grow. Please help out if you can. By starting or selecting one "state blog" in virtually every state, and getting virtually all of them blogging credentials at the Democratic National Convention in 2008 (all-white, of course), the CIA-trained Moulitsas Zúñiga has already asserted a stranglehold over blogger access to the Democratic National Convention. Washington Post
Now, he seems to want to make sure that every corner of the "progressive" blogosphere has at least one "asset" who owes his livelihood to MAMZ and works, perhaps, and perhaps unintentionally, and indirectly, for the US Central Intelligence Agency. And for the privilege of being infiltrated by the CIA, MAMZ is requesting that the progressive public contribute to his scholarship fund. That's rich!
I wonder how much money MAMZ family member Carlos Alberto Delgado Zúñiga will be contributing to this enterprise, giving back to America after the Overseas Private Investment Council gave him a million dollars in loan guarantees?
It all makes sense, really. Why should the Government pay for spying on bloggers when there are unwitting and uncritical "progressives" willing to donate money to the CIA-sponsored blog corps? Or maybe the Government will explain the provenance of the money MAMZ distributes by saying that it comes from donations? It's hard to know for certain.
What is certain is that someone who trained at the CIA for two years is now mostly likely using that training to infiltrate the American left's bloggers, assuring that the newfound ability to unite nationally and internationally will not result in national international movements that the Government cannot control.
Look at Jack and Jill Politics, for example: Jack and Jill Politics participates in the secretive Townhouse Group of MAMZ-infiltrated bloggers (take my word for it), and is also receiving an award today from Living Liberally, which is sponsored in part by DailyKos, whose owner was trained for two years by the CIA. Perhaps Jack and Jill Politics doesn't know that this constitutes a clear and present risk of infiltration of the Black blog world by the CIA, but I think it does. I'm SURE it does.
If you want to work for the CIA, or become a CIA asset, there is no better way to get started than by applying for one of these KOS[CIA?]Fellowships. Even if the money isn't coming directly from the CIA, certainly a man like MAMZ, who was at the CIA headquarters in Washington, DC for two years, will have plenty of contacts to get you started as a CIA agent or asset. As he said in an interview at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on June 2, 2006, he "went to the end of the process" of being trained to be an undercover agent; he thinks the CIA's "hearts are in the right place"; and he "would have no trouble working for them today". So maybe he DOES work for them today, and maybe he can help you get a job there or at least some indirect CIA support for your blogging.
You, too, can be a blogger mentored and taken under the wing of the CIA.
Of course, some people who are also CIA assets or who are simply imbeciles will insist that MAMZ might have changed since he was trained by the CIA. Even if that were so, training at the CIA is like going to law school: You never forget the tricks you learned there, and you can use them in any profession. Even blogging.
