I have to wonder if some of the trends at hand aren't, in the long run, positive.
"Privatize the profits, socialize the losses."
"Too big to fail."
Could it be that these are in fact a positive trend of sorts? Isn't "too big to fail" inevitably headed for "too big to remain private" without utterly disappearing in a nuclear blast of crisis that society just won't countenance?
Isn't "Privatize the profits, socialize the losses" just a half-way home sort of thing?
I mean, if conditions drive what our "nature" is and what we think and do, then aren't conditions going to lead to the changes that will become either common ruin or the eruption of working class power? Could it be that the Citi and Goldmans of the world will quite simply HAVE TO BE taken over by the state and then that such a new reality will bring along a new consciousness about, err, What is to be done? in those (these?) new times?
