(been a while since I have seen the bitch around...)

But did y'all see this thread?

I have to wonder if some of the trends at hand aren't, in the long run, positive.

"Privatize the profits, socialize the losses."

"Too big to fail."

Could it be that these are in fact a positive trend of sorts? Isn't "too big to fail" inevitably headed for "too big to remain private" without utterly disappearing in a nuclear blast of crisis that society just won't countenance?

Isn't "Privatize the profits, socialize the losses" just a half-way home sort of thing?

I mean, if conditions drive what our "nature" is and what we think and do, then aren't conditions going to lead to the changes that will become either common ruin or the eruption of working class power? Could it be that the Citi and Goldmans of the world will quite simply HAVE TO BE taken over by the state and then that such a new reality will bring along a new consciousness about, err, What is to be done? in those (these?) new times?

Just thinkin'

Mebbe badly. That'd be nuthin' new, of course.

Obama might be the best thing that ever happened....and there I was all worried that he might retard the progress of history, I just couldn't imagine that much hubris.

It's all good...

I don't think it is "conditions" so much as a disconnect between what has already changed, and the previous political infrastructure which is now partly an artifact. There is no greater "danger" to be had, other than that which is already here.

Millions without work... millions in prison... millions of foreclosures... torture as a rotine element of the body politic... two and three imperialist wars at a time... democracy as a sarcastic daily reminder of powerlessness...

andddd.... things "might be worse with Palin."

How?

don't delude yourself into thinking that the government as it stands can simply be coopted for the public good. The system as it stands can only be oriented in one direction. What they "have" to do is exactly what they've done and will do.

Taking over the State isn't such a staightfoward venture.
