This one is for the Republican Party. In a nut, this was their campaign, it's all they got. They could not run on anything of substance, Obama had pre-empted them by going so far to the right that they could not disagree with him in any coherent degree on matters of the economy or foreign policy. So they took the road that Richard Nixon layed down for them, racists politics, and kicked it up a notch. While the Democrats are certainly the More Effective Evil the Republicans get the prize for pandering to and thus legitimizing the most despicable aspects of human behavior. There can be no doubt that if one queried the TPs for a succinct rational for supporting Mitt it would be "to get the nigger out of the White House". I very strongly suspect that if the party of Nixon had not pursued this course over the last 35 years that the racial divide would not be so great, would have indeed shrunk.
