028733 Provisional ballot problem Middle School, 128 Grandview Avenue, White Plains
Lever-based machine left off the names of two of the candidates (judicial candidates) and elderly voting monitors did not allow voters to use machines and, instead, forced everyone to use provisional ballots. The way in which the provisional ballots were collected were very haphazard and a number of them were stuffed in the outside pockets of the monitors' purses, gym bags and clear shopping bags.

At noon on election day it was discovered that the information in one voting booth was 2 years old (voting for Pataki for governor, not voting for president). Election officials found out about it at noon and stopped the use of the machine. Caller was calling for his parents who voted on other machines.
061240 15 Spring Street, Glenville Fire Dept., Tarrytown
While voter was waiting in line, she saw that the two people in front of her each had trouble with the lever to register the votes and shut the curtains. It kept getting stuck. When she went into booth to vote, she noticed that the lever for several candidates would not go all the way down. She told the poll workers (voter did not see anyone identified as an inspector). One Republican and 1 Democrat official went into the booth with her. She was voting for a Democratic judicial (Sup. Ct) candidate. The Republican told her not to worry; would probably count even though lever wasn't going all the way down. Voter said she wasn't comfortable with that. After both officials tried to jiggle it to get it to turn all the way but could not, after some discussion she was encouraged to vote for the same candidate under Working Families Party and did so, though not her 1st choice. Caller also noted that the poll workers were very loud and kind of rude (but not apparently malicious) about fact that a voter in front of her was illiterate. At first, the workers went into the booth with him then left while he voted.

The lever was backwards on the machine she used, so when she tried to vote, she had to pull it all the way to the other side and the knobs would not move. When she left the booth, the poll worker pushed a button on the outside. When she told the poll worker about the problem, it seemed that the machine worked differently after she worked. She says that the polling site across the street had the same problem -- the machines across the street seemed to have the same problem.

Machines would not allow voter to vote for county court judge. Offered her the right to vote by paper. They are not telling people about problem until in booth and signed in.
061005 North Barry Avenue Firehouse, Mamaronek
