We are switching the site to a new server.

The nameserver has been changed - the domain name is pointing to the new server - but the files won't be moved until tonight. As the domain name assignment to the new server propagates, there is a strong likelihood that some, depending on location and how fast the propagation happens, will be unable to get the site this afternoon or tonight.

This is somewhat like moving your phone to your new house before you have actually moved. Minor mistake, and nothing catastrophic - unless your mother panics if she is ever not able to reach you for a few hours lol.

There is nothing folr anybody to do except be patient, and nothing to change. The site will be back up as ever at the same address - by tomorrow morning at the latest would you say, Rusty?

This site that reaches over 114K U.S. monthly uniques. The site appeals to a skewing older, mostly Caucasian, more affluent group. The site's visitors' interests are political (dailykos.com, huffingtonpost.com, thenation.com, wonkette.com), 2008 candidates (Dennis Kucinich (Dem), John Edwards (Dem), Ron Paul (Rep), Hillary Clinton (Dem)) and magazines (New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Popular Science, Newsweek).

So I found this thing on the internets, and it looked like grist for the mill. But then someone pointed out this:

http://www.quantcast.com/freerepublic.com

Wherein it is indicated that FR is populated mostly by black folks. Hmmm, Disreali might have been right about something, "lies, damn lies and statistics." What kind of horribly embarassing crap is this?

Never have I seen DNS changes go so fast. We pointed back to the old server for a while to grab a newer backup file and then back to the new server. The updates and server changes are now in place including an installation of Movable Type.

I'll leave it to you to discuss that :)

Great job on the changeover, thanks.
