My twisted mind sees this as a way to get those "losing hope" to rally their belief and defend Obama... and a way for him to say, "Shucks folks, I really did try!". What I really meant was what's going on that they don't want the general populous to know about? Or to forget. Kind of like the swine flu thing taking over the headlines about the torture photos. The propaganda of this whole story line here, I guess. Plot maybe , but Obama does seem to be losing popularity all over the place, and not just DU, his insistence on closing Gitmo, might return "hope" to some, and it would serve the ruling elite to keep him popular for a bit longer.
