Hi Kid!
Thanks for the greeting. It has been a while, but it was good to see the familiar names.
Is anyone doing much about climate change here? The more I read the scientific data coming in, the more I get scared. Seems like massive stupidity or a conspiracy to keep the lid on the truth. But then' if people in thetropics and sub tropics get wiped out, then the greedy will have more access to resources. I believe that the uber rich are arrogant enough to believe that they will survive the massive destruction to come and evil enough to fan the flames of the fire.

Hey MP,

What should "we" be "doing"? Also, what something "seems" is not what it is.

Who are "the greedy"? We'd all be "greedy" if given power over other people.

Hi Mom Person! Jump in. If you have some research about climate change to share, lay it out. We will be interested. Don't be put off by our rough nature - we are rough and ready. Welcome aboard...

Indeed-better to be rough and honest than to be "nice" yet dishonest.

Someone once told me: not all smiling faces are honest faces. Good thing to keep in mind...

I don't know how many of us are in danger of being "given power" over others. I won't hold my breath waiting to be given any. As for what "we " "should be doing", I would say that the main thing is to get the co2 level down to around 300ppm.
What do you think we should be doing:question:

:hi: Thanks for the warning.
I will be glad to share what I know about the climate wierding the earth is undergoing. I saw that you are in Alabama. Are you in the area that has had such a bad droughth? Where I grew up in Texas has the worst level of drought now for 3 months now. Glad I am in Boston. I'll get together some pertinent data on climate change in the next week or so.
Stay cool.

So, that is how it is here. You guys are a riot.
So, what are your main interests here?

Hi mp. There was an environmental forum on the old site, it might be archived. You can also search blindpig's username - he's posted some good articles. Although after reading them I'm more convinced than ever the only way to "do something" about the environment is to wipe out capitalism. The co2 levels aren't up because we're lazy, incompetent, or in denial, and I doubt there's any conspiracy. They're up because everything is about profit. If profit could be made without destroying the environment, the environment wouldn't be in danger.

Well I should've said "howdy" in my initial response. I am in south Houston, land of Ron Paul. It's dry here, but probably not as bad as some areas because at least we're not too far from the Gulf. I have to admit it's in the high 80's already this morning and a day in Boston sounds heavenly. I've only traveled to the city once but very much enjoyed it.

In response to your question and interests, BP cares immensely about the environment, and I care about the critters. We know we need to get rid of capitalism to save our planet, and everyone else agrees about getting rid of the capitalism too. So, that is our focus.

Hey there Mom Person. Here is the Environment Forum from PI:

http://www.thebellforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46

The archived forums have been compressed, use the 'thread display' tool below the 2 pinned threads to access the rest of the forum.

I suppose I had been an 'environmentalists' since there was an 'Earth Day' and the hard lesson that I learned was that the Environmental Movement' has accomplished very little and has indeed made things worse by completely ignoring what is tearing everything up, our economic system. Things might be done differently, but not with the profit motive in place. By 'working with the system', even 'partnering' with the very corporations wrecking our lives and the planet generally they are nothing but a distraction from ever accomplishing any of their stated goals.

Capitalists work for profit, socialists work to satisify human needs. Human needs include a livable atmosphere, healthy, productive oceans, diverse, stable environments........

I so agree with you about capitalist profit motive being a root cause of the problem along with over population and the shredding of human connection to nature. I don't know if you have read a new book called The Ecological Rift: . I will be posting a review of it in the catch-all forum. here is the link: http://monthlyreview.org/press/books/pb2181/
Frankly, I think the homo sapiens problem will be resolved with the sixth great extinction.

Ahh, Houston. That was the reason I finally left Texas.
Here is an article on the weathed in Texas. It is quite the driest that it has been there since they started keeping records.

It talks about the drouth of 1956. I remember it and the seven year drouht of which it was a part all too well.

'Overpopulation and the shredding of human connection to nature' are largely symptoms of capitalism. Capitalism make poverty and poverty produces high replacement rate. Capitalism virtually requires driving people off the land that capitalist industrial farming might replace them and they end up as urban poor who must sell their labor to the capitalists at the lowest possible price.

If it is 'the homo sapien problem' then why bother?

Right. Homo sapiens lived for hundreds of thousands of years without damaging the environment. It has only been the last few hundred years that we have really started ruining our "nests" - and that is essentially the same time period for capitalism...

Here in Pearland the oaks are fine - but that is because everyone is watering like mad. I did it for 2 mos. to let my grass grow out and have stopped again. I refuse to keep wasting all that water - it doubled our usage for those 2 months. Really hoping for some hurricane rain soon ... On the positive side we have not had mosquitos (which is typically a problem out here in the former rice fields).
