Many older veterans of the U.S. labor movement directly experienced the “anti-communist” policies of the AFL-CIO enacted in the late 1940s and early 1950s. One key part of those policies was to withdraw from the World Federation of Trade Unions in 1948 and form an alternative international body known today as the International Trade Union Confederation. Around the world the AFL-CIO’s policy was and still is to attack and undermine unions affiliated with WFTU and aid whatever imperialist design the U.S. government and corporations had and have for workers.
