I don't know if you guys paid attention to that January poverty essay thing at DU. It worked pretty well.

A couple of people have approached me and suggested we do a similar project with socialism. Weekly essays, collaborate on them here the same way we did with the poverty essays, and then use them to get discussions going at DU.

Sounds good. We can post a weekly essay, collaborate on it here. Hash out the topics and approach.

I'm sure there's plenty more that are not occurring to me at the moment.

Once we decide that we might order them to provide some sort of 'narrative'.

I'm in, I'm an idiot on it, but can glean stuff from my new group, Ashley Smith is going to be at our next meeting, but I don't know enough about him to be impressed, lol!

FYI - Hugh something-or-other dropped several hints on the latest food thread about an "anti-DU board" that the OP was coming from. That is a shot across the bow. We shouldn't ignore it.

I want to see (just my idea here) essays on things that impact people, and are relevant to their every day lives. For example, an examination of the way we look at the landlord-tenant relationship. There is an assumption that it is the obligation of tenants to help wannabe landed gentry build wealth for themselves - pay off the mortgages for people speculating in real estate and be grateful for the opportunity to do that for them.

I'd like to see something regarding the education system and how it perpetuates and exacerbates the status quo, but I'm no where near ready to write it myself! Can I call in friends?
