It was only three days, and I'm probably less concerned about inmates convicted of DUI's than other homeless folks, but this article still begs the question: why are tents being used as housing facilities for anyone? It seems to me that there are plenty of new and foreclosed housing units sitting empty, and maybe we should be utilizing those resources rather than consigning human beings to tents.
Here's the story:

PHOENIX — Former NBA star Charles Barkley has been released from jail after serving a three-day sentence in Phoenix on a drunken-driving conviction.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Brian Lee says Barkley left the Tent City jail just before 8 a.m. Monday. He began his sentence Saturday morning.
Barkley spent about 36 hours in jail after getting 12 hours of work release Sunday and Monday.
He was housed in a separate tent from the other inmates for his safety, and meals were brought to him.
The 46-year-old Barkley pleaded guilty last month to two misdemeanor DUI charges stemming from his Dec. 31 arrest. He failed a field-sobriety test after leaving a Scottsdale nightclub.
A judge reduced Barkley’s original 10-day sentence to three days, provided that Barkley completes an alcohol-treatment program.
