Climate change can be a hard thing to wrap your head around. It's really scary! The earth is really complicated! There are a lot of numbers!
But if you want to know whether or not global warming is real, there's really only one thing you need to know: Does carbon dioxide trap heat in the atmosphere? Scientists have known the answer (yes) since at least 1895, when the Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius (http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/Arrhenius/) did the first research on what came to be know as greenhouse gases. Some climate change questions are hard, like how to predict the movement of clouds in computer models. But the basic existence of the greenhouse effect is very straightforward and noncontroversial. In fact, the greenhouse effect is so basic that you can even prove its existence with a simple DIY experiment. We got the idea from the great science communicator Bill Nye, who talked about it when he appeared on a recent episode of our Inquiring Minds podcast (http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2016/04/bill-nye-climate-inquiring-minds). We decided to give it a try, and it worked…barely. We're not scientists, ok?

Silly Mother Jones (I recent this rag using this title), it isn't that "Climate Change" is hard to grasp, it is that its solution is impossible to implement.

You cannot begin to slowdown greenhouse emissions while maintaining and expanding capitalist expropriation. It is just that simple. And since you cannot do the one without undoing the other, the governments of the world will continue to deny, downplay, obfuscate, and lie. Because they will never give up capitalism without being forced to do so (I am channeling blindpig).

So, where does that leave us? It leaves us with a "leftish" rag trying to explain why it is so hard to understand global warming. And why not try this little experiment that shows global warming is "real"? There is no one, anymore, who thinks climate change is not real; there are only those who lie about it. The "left" media continue to carry water for the bosses, and should be turned-off by working class folks. I think most of the working class ignore these "gentrified" "left" publications, anyway. These rags are mostly for the edification of the upwardly mobile yuppie aristocracy, who like to "think green" and have a "progressive footprint".

I actually heard a guy use the phrase "progressive footprint". I asked him why were the toes pointed the wrong way. He looked confused...
