Unfortunately, full articles online are available only to subscribers, and I'm not about to key in the entire thing, so I'll just suggest Thomas Geohagan's "Infinite Debt: How Unlimited Interest Rates Destroyed the Economy," the cover article for April.

He makes a convincing case that the end of usury laws did a lot more than just get more people into debt--it distorted our entire economy in ways I hadn't thought of before.

The same issue also continas an article on payday lenders that focuses on the Tennessee man who takes "credit" for founding the industry.

Informative and infuriating stuff.
