The local student radio station from U of Mich (not their NPR - this is their dingy basement station) has a show called Radio Sputnik.
I think it is relatively new, maybe for this school year. I haven't been listening consistently lately, being out of town and all, but the station has a lot of interesting shows.
This one seems like sort of a joke as far as the DJ is concerned - he alternately speaks in fond terms of the socialist revolution leading to communism etc, and referring to socialism as a 'practical joke of the 20th century'. The synthesizer as a communist propaganda tool. Communist art is sometimes beautiful but always very catchy. I dunno.
Regardless of 'Comrade Rob's' persona or leanings, he plays all sorts of interesting shit from communist countries, I'm thoroughly entertained.
This is the playlist so far today:
11:20 AM Radio Pyongyang Numbers Game Commie Funk and Agit Pop from the Hermit Kingdom Sublime Frequencies
11:15 AM Ensemble Aquarium Derebnya Melodiya
11:10 AM Alexei Kuznotsov/Nikolai Gromin Honeysuckle Rose Dzhango: Azhazovie Komlozistii Melodiya
11:04 AM Aslan Sultonov Munozhotni Tinglab Kuilaidi, Uzbek Folk Songs Melodiya
11:03 AM Soviet National Anthem
Anyway, if anyone is interested it is on from 11am-1pm on Tuesdays and can be streamed live here
