..Festival of KNE-Odigitis: The ideas of social liberation are timely and necessary
Dimitris Koutsoumpas, GS of the CC of the KKE, spoke at an enormous rally at the end of the events of the 40th Festival of KNE that this year was held wit as its central slogan: ““To build a world to the high level of dreams and men. We carry on!”. These words were borrowed by KNE from the defence of Nikos Belogiannis, member of the CC of the KKE, who was executed in 1952.

Over recent months, KNE has held hundreds of events all over the country in the framework of its 40th Festival, which culminated in the mass 3-day event in Athens with the participation of thousands of workers and young people. Concerts, political discussions, theatrical performances, various exhibitions, sports events, a plethora of different political, cultural activities have established the festival of KNE for 40 years, as the most important political-cultural event, in which hundreds of thousands of workers and young people have participated.
Representatives from 24 communist and anti-imperialist youth organizations from all over the world participated in this years festival, while the Cuban ambassador-Osvaldo Martinez, the Venezuelan ambassador-Farid Fernandez, as well as the ambassador of Palestine - Marwan Emil Toubassi also attended.

Koutsoumpas in his speech noted as regards the festival that: “This year the Festival of KNE-Odigitis celebrates its 40 years of history, its 40 years of a unique and unprecedented course, 40 years of contribution to the struggles of the youth in Art, Culture, creativity, and above all to the ideas of social revolution, the continuous struggle to build a world to the level of our dreams, to the level of the people (…) This great celebration of youth is a unique political-cultural institution that endures, that continues with the same dynamism and liveliness, as it did 40 years ago, that still talks to the heart and mind of the youth. KNE’s festival is here. Timeless and also timely, youthful, but at the same time mature, renewed, developing, but never subordinated to the fashion imposed by the system, the traders of culture, the sponsors. The festival of KNE endured, because the KKE endures, its youth endures. Because, above all, the ideas of social revolution are more timely and necessary than ever, as well as the worldview of scientific communism, the struggle for the overthrow of capitalism, for socialism. The Festival of KNE endured and endures because it is created with the passion, selflessness and voluntary contribution of the members and friends of the KKE and KNE. Because there is no other institution that activates and mobilizes so many thousands of young men and women.”
In reference to KNE, he noted that: ”KNE is marching to its 11th Congress in December, the Congress of the Youth of the heroic KKE, so that KNE becomes stronger and strengthens its bonds with the working class youth, the young workers, the school students, the university students from the popular families. KNE is flesh of their flesh and with their contribution it can strengthen its struggle so that new forces join the battle for the revival, counterattack of the labour-people’s movement, so that it can supply the KKE with new militants.”

The GS of the CC of the KKE referred to the political developments and to the confrontation between the government (ND-PASOK) and the official opposition (SYRIZA) and mentioned amongst other things: “the working people are once again witnessing the fake confrontation between the coalition government of ND and PASOK that continues its merciless policies against the people and the official opposition of SYRIZA and other parties that foster new illusions and try systematically to impede the radicalization of the people and the struggle for real radical changes in favour of the people. […]
We have all witnessed the trajectory of SYRIZA during its formation as a party of social democracy that would replace PASOK; its acceptance and agreement with the EU and NATO, its complete inability to lead or support struggles for the defense of the salaries and the savings of the popular strata from the outbreak of the capitalist crisis, not to mention what will happen in the future if SYRIZA becomes a governing party. Besides, we have the experience at international and European level where left parties or even communist parties in government followed the well-worn path of the capitalist management with negative and devastating results for their peoples.
No one must be deceived by the verbal confrontation between the government and SYRIZA. This fake confrontation serves the two main poles of the bourgeois political system because it conceals the fact that they both accept the sacrifices, the plunder of the people’s income on the altar of the profits and the competitiveness of the monopolies”.
D. Koutsoumpas criticized the illusions about a “government of the left” which are fostered by SYRIZA. He underlined that “all governments regardless of their name will be against the people as long as they operate within choices of the EU and NATO, the capitalist path of development. This is objective and cannot change”. He added: “none of the two poles of the system can conceal from the people that the EU has now created mechanisms for the monitoring and the supervision of countries, with permanent memoranda, that can do what the troika has been doing so far; that no capitalist stabilization or growth will lead to a recovery of the immense losses of the peoples but will be based on the ruins of the workers’ and people’s rights; that the deterioration in the economy of the Eurozone today, the forecasts about a recession in the strong countries i.e. France, Italy, Germany can prolong or even sharpen the capitalist crisis in Greece; that the sharp competition of the USA, NATO and the EU with other centres e.g. Russia, China, the local and regional conflicts highlight that the imperialist war is at the gates. 100 years after the First World War and 70 years after the Second World War, Ukraine, other countries in our neighborhood, the Near and Middle East are breading grounds for a more generalized imperialist war.
What will the current government of PASOK and ND or a future government with the participation of SYRIZA do in light of the plans for a further involvement of Greece in the framework of the new role of NATO, and the plans for the expansion of the rapid reaction forces in Eastern Europe and Middle East ?
Only the KKE gives a clear and straightforward answer: no participation in the imperialist plans. No Greek soldier in missions abroad. Immediate withdrawal from NATO. The peoples, the movements, the working class must not struggle under a false flag!
The GS of the CC of the KKE referred to the talk about a coalition government with the participation of the KKE and stressed that “the KKE does not participate in such a government within the boundaries of the system imposing one or two partial terms and conditions as various well-wishers suggest to us. And the reason is that the very life of our people and the course of our country do not depend on one or two partial conditions but on a set of programmatic goals and general radical changes and rupture in conditions of workers’ and people’s power. The KKE will be present in such a government”.

Koutsoumpas noted that “The developments, the sharpening problems of the people require an emancipated strong revived labour-people’s movement” and added that “the strengthening of the KKE labour and people’s movement, the strengthening of the KKE everywhere is the surest guarantee in order to confront the Nazi Golden Dawn, these lackeys of the system, the admirers of Hitler, the Nazi collaborators … The members of Golden Dawn are the paid lackeys of sections of capital.”
In reference to the political proposal of the KKE he noted that “The struggle for disengagement from the EU is a precondition for the other path of development, motivated by the social needs, beneficial international cooperation and friendship, with overall changes that the peoples and their movements will impose in other countries through their struggle.”
The struggle against the imperialist wars and interventions of the expeditionary forces that have been decided on by NATO, the departure from it and every imperialist organization.
The socialization of the concentrated means of production, the mineral wealth, the hydrocarbons, the energy, of the natural wealth and the wealth produced by the people, so that the economy can have the necessary tools for development, the redistribution of the resources in favour of the people, the elimination of unemployment and the safeguarding of permanent and stable work for all, with central planning.
And all of this must happen with a change of the class that is in power, with the establishment of workers’ people’s power. The KKE has a complete proposal for a way out and development in favour of the people. The proposal of the KKE is more timely and necessary than ever.”

Koutsoumpas, from the podium of the Festival called on the workers and youth to contribute with all their strength to the preparation of the national demonstration of the 1st of November in Athens, actively working in the ranks of the labour and people’s movement, the All-workers Militant Front (PAME), The Nationwide anti-monopoly rally of self-employed- craftsmen-shopkeepers (PASEVE), the All-farmers Militant Rally (PASY), the Federation of Greek Women (OGE), the Students’ Struggle Front (MAS).
