To activists on the front lines fighting institutionalized racism, poverty and war plaguing the globe:
We thought you might be interested in this revolutionary conference in
New York City, Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8.
We invite you to join a critical and timely dialogue.
This conference, organized by Workers World Party, is a unique opportunity to meet up with serious revolutionary fighters from across the country. Gaining a perspective on the problems confronting us and exchanging views on concrete tactics and experiences will give you new ideas on how to proceed with a deeper global understanding and solidarity. It takes revolutionary ideas and determined organization to change this oppressive and racist system.
The conference will be held at the historic Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center at 3940 Broadway (W. 165th St.) in Manhattan. Go to WorkersWorldParty.org for more information, schedule/program, housing, and childcare, also to register.
The conference starts on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.
It is an intense and a very exciting agenda with lots of time for discussion, workshops, panels and cultural presentations.
As workers and oppressed peoples are being inundated with the likes of Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and others running for president, Workers World Party will be countering all the early election hoopla with the theme of Putting Socialist Revolution on the Table.
This theme is intended to offer a real alternative for any worker, oppressed person or activist on what is needed today.
The big business parties' candidates be they Democrat or Republican will say or do anything often reactionary to get the dollars they need to win upcoming primaries. So, they won't utter one word about capitalism being the root cause of all the oppression and inequality in the U.S. and worldwide.
From the end of World War II to 2007, the capitalist class of ruthless billionaire bankers and corporate bosses could count on the boom part of the business cycle to rescue their system from the bust crisis of overproduction. Those days are over.
Ever since a tidal wave of housing foreclosures sparked the 2007-08 crisis, capitalism has been in a permanent state of doom and gloom. Even the bank bailouts of more than $1 trillion couldn't reverse it. The recent tumbling of global stock markets is one stark indicator. The enormous expansion of the productive forces has trapped capitalism in a dead end with no escape. The capitalists are seeking to solve the system's crisis on the backs of the workers, the oppressed and the poor.
The problems are huge. We see the alarming epidemic of police brutality, the daily murders of Black and Brown youth, women, trans people and people with disabilities; and the unimaginable migrant crisis, where U.S.-NATO -led- or -backed wars have forced millions of people to leave their homelands in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. And we see low-wage workers demanding $15 an hour and a union; working and poor women of color struggling for reproductive justice and tens of millions of people fighting gentrification, mass incarceration, deportations, occupation, global warming and austerity. We are involved in every one of these struggles.
In every case, the criminal is genocidal capitalism.
None of these crises can be reformed under capitalism: Even if it appears a distant goal, only socialism can resolve them and that takes a revolution by the workers and oppressed to win. The experiences in Cuba and other countries have shown that socialism as an economic system can only be gained by the full mobilization of the masses that uproots an oppressive system which cruelly exploits their labor and their resources for profits.
Only socialism can liberate the workers of all nationalities from this exploitation and start the process of workers using their labor to produce for their own needs. Since socialism is not based on profit-making, this system puts human needs first health care, education, housing and more. And it lays the basis for ending all forms of bigotry, inequality and oppression. Only socialism can stop imperialist war, and begin the process for peace, international cooperation and equitable sharing of resources. Building a revolution for socialism in the U.S., the most industrialized country, will be a huge leap forward to capitalism's global downfall.
This perspective gives enormous confidence. Please consider coming to listen, participate and learn.
It is important to make plans quickly as conference organizers need to arrange for adequate housing accommodations, meals and more. If you cannot attend, please help to sponsor transportation, food and housing for youth and low-income activists so they can participate.
We hope to see you on Nov. 7 and 8.
In solidarity,
Teresa Gutierrez Monica Moorehead Scott Williams
