Solidarity Rocks: New Dropkick Murphys Music Video Supports Union Drive at Boston Teaching Hospitals

BOSTON, Sept 20, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- 10,000 free DVDs will be given away in Fenway, Kenmore, Longwood Medical Area as Boston rock icons team up with 1199SEIU The new music video from Boston rock icons Dropkick Murphys features more than just footage from the bands rollicking sold-out arena shows. It also delivers a timely social justice message supporting blue collar and frontline workers in Boston's largest industry - healthcare. The new "Tomorrow's Industry" video was created through a unique collaboration with Boston hospital workers as part of their campaign to join Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union for a voice at work.

When the video and DVD launch publicly on Tuesday, September 21st, the Dropkick Murphys will make history as the first national recording artists in the United States to ever adopt a labor organizing cause as the main theme of a rock music video.

Although the last sentence of your excerpt is sort of a sobering thought...!

I tried to think of any others, and there really aren't any! Some rock groups have done covers of old labor tunes, but nothing specific like this. I love this band.

'Stay Away From iTunes!' rule and download some of their stuff.

Is there a better way to get music online, a different company to use? I don't mind paying for music but I hate the monopolistic feel of iTunes, and it seems like it's 15 steps removed from the band so they probably don't get much out of it, and I don't really know any better.

and then we can load them on both of our computers, and use it in the car (we bought the Live on St. Patrick's day before our last road trip). I hate iTunes - I've tried to use it and it takes over your computer and tries to delete all your other music.

I do own & use a kindle - I'm not opposed to technology. My rule of thumb is that Apple really sucks though just in general. Can't stand their products.

User friendly and infinitely better than itunes, because it costs you nothing.

Kick...ass... One of the lads says "80% of the band is intoxicated!" Oh...yeah...

It used to be an "all you can download for a $5 monthly fee" service but now its morphed into "pretty good selection at half the price of itunes"

but always sorta felt that the "Irish punk" thing was a bit gimmicky (and thats not limited to the Dropkicks either)

I was briefly intrigued by the Mighty Bosstones when I was about 16 or 17 and they ended up really commercial and blah so it's hard not to associate any of that sound with that...

hey while you're here on the subject of music, do you know the band Sepultura? I had a little get together last night and a friend was telling me I'd probably like them when I'm in the mood for really hard rock/metal (which I am occasionally), but I can't bring myself to youtube them this morning, in part because someone brought some really good sippin' tequila to the party (which should be illegal btw) and I can barely stand the sound of monkey man washing dishes let alone metal music, heh.

I've heard of them without actually having heard their music sorry

I'll check em out on youtube when I'm in the mood for that kinda shit. It's a rare but important moment when I need to rock out that hard. Heh.

I'll refrain from posting pirate rock, though. Or the Finnish Viking metal.
