Here's an electric car you can buy right now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenn

I didn't know there were any currently available in the U.S. The nearest dealership to me is a hundred miles away (the only one in my state or neighboring states), that's farther than I would have hoped, but doable I guess.

Oh that really sucks, lol, I was seriously considering buying that. That would have met my driving needs, and I could just take a bus or plane if I'm going far away. But 25 mph, I mean that's grandmother speed, don't think I can do that.

p.s. It seems like any car that is closer to doing the same things that a real car does, is going to be expensive. I've been seeing cars that look like Geo Metros or smaller, but they seem to be charging an arm and a leg for them. I guess they figure you'll save at the pump so they've got to soak you at the dealership.

I think the compressed air car has a future. It is lighter and cheaper without those expensive batteries. It could easily fill the everyday needs of people like myself. Nanotechnology of carbon has helped the storage capacity. We will see.

This six-seater tax, which should be available in India next year, is powered entirely by a tank filled with compressed air.

Article Summary

The Zero-Pollution MDI Air Car, invented in France and licensed by Tata Motors in India, is coming to American shores. Zero Pollution http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollution Motors have announced they will begin taking reservations for the first U.S. deliveries in the next couple of months, but it will be 2010 before Americans get their first taste of the ingenious compressed-air motor, which runs to 35mph entirely on air, or uses a trickle of petrol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline to heat and compress more air to reach higher speeds up to 90mph. It'll cost next to nothing to run (how do 30,000km service intervals sound?), have a range of up to 1000 miles, and retail for well under US$20,000.

I'm having trouble figuring out the price. They (the company) say that the conversion costs over $50,000 (I guess the conversion from gas power). And I believe the car itself costs $15,000, so after tax you're looking at $70,000.

It solves the commuting problem and the city driving for most people. We will see.

I haven't had time to look into the air cars yet. Are any of them being sold in the U.S.? I'm getting frustrated I'm sort of looking for a car now or sometime soon, and I'm thinking of just breaking down and getting the Toyota Yaris, it gets the best gas mileage of any non-diesel, non-hybrid, non-electric car. Maybe I could just take some initiative at some point and try to convert it to biodiesel.

If you were devoted to the green route the thing to do would be to buy a hybrid and have the plug=in conversion done.

I guess if you were a die hard electric man you could get an electric scooter for $4500 or electric motorcycles. That seems like a good way to get hurt though.
