View Full Version : WTF? Site Failure Effectively Blocking My Posts

I spent something like 40 hours Saturday, Sunday and Monday researching, writing and meticulously URL-footnoting two original pieces for posting here and now discover to my indescribable fury that my entire effort is totally wasted because this site will no longer accept active URLs. No matter what I try -- and I have pissed away hours trying fo find some way around this problem -- the best I can get is this: http://www.zogby.com/templates/printnews.cfm?id=1379 rather than an active link. I first noticed this problem a couple of weeks ago, sporadically and frustratingly, but eventually it seemed to correct itself. Now the condition is obviously permanent which means -- since it is impossible to footnote anything -- it is impossible to write on this site with any credibility at all, thereby reducing anything any of us might say to gibberish. /////

Sorry for the problems.

Go ahead and paste the post into a thread where you want it, and I will make the links active. There is a little bit of a trick to making active links - as with so many things in computer software there should not be esoteric tricks that one needs to learn - the program should be a tool for the writer not force the writer to be an agent of the tool.

In this case, you can either use the "url" bracketed tags or paste an url into the post, but not both if you want an active link. Someday I will figure out what the Hell is wrong with programmers. I think they secretly hate producers, writers and artists. I will do the best I can to translate in the meantime.

See example:

Typing either this

http://www.zogby.com/templates/printnews.cfm?id=1379

or this

link to Zogby (http://www.zogby.com/templates/printnews.cfm?id=1379)

will give active links.

Typing this

http://www.zogby.com/templates/printnews.cfm?id=1379

will not.

The first example will look like this:

http://www.zogby.com/templates/printnews.cfm?id=1379

and the second like this:

link to Zogby (http://www.zogby.com/templates/printnews.cfm?id=1379:2asok0nc)

I will start a forum here soon for asking "how to" questions.

which probably has to do with the fact this writing effort was so intense, I kept at it even after I ran out of coffee 18 hours ago.

(Obviously this is Miss Manners site: I should have thanked you first, before posting what ended up next, below.)
