"So this is the new health care plan for Seniors. Republican's plan, Seniors, die quickly. Democrat's plan, Seniors don't have to die, but we'll cut your health care so you die anyway. Some choice! The hell with you all!"

She listens to some crazy radio crap like Art Bell/George Noory (they are conspiracy, space alien, Area 51, NWO, etc nuts)

Anyway, she was telling me about an interview with some guy about Thomas Jefferson. According to his "research" it was Jefferson's brother and cousin who impregnated his slaves and not TJ himself. Also, one time TJ went to Europe for 5 years and upon returning to Monticello was carried in the air by his slaves who were so greatful for his return.

I said, forget about commenting on his character -- why would you want to sing the virtues of a slave-owner and serial rapist under any circumstances? She got incensed saying that he was much more "humane" than other slave owners and everyone did it back then, so what was my problem?

EDIT: she also said my alternative was Soviet slave camps. When I asked what she was even talking about she said "I lived through the 50s!!".

historically she has been more in the TIA "bring back JFK now" camp. At least now she is seeing some of this clearly. Your parents sound more like my in-laws. I don't know what they put in the water in Florida but I'd advise not drinking it.

Eleanor's idea of "humanitarianism" is picking Netta as Person Of The Year. She doesn't see anything ghoulish about using a woman's grisly death for the purpose of political pandering. Which also helps explain how she inevitably backs every US killing spree

But, in fairness, its not that important because my Mom has lived her whole life with her nose to the grindstone, bailing my egomaniac Dad out of one fuckup after another. Hes pretty much oblivious to the plight of everyone else because my Mom takes care of everything for him, leaving him completely insulated.
