UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to condemn the U.S. commercial, economic and financial embargo against Cuba for the 22nd year in a row.

The symbolic vote Tuesday was 188-2, with three abstentions. The United States and Israel voted against it. General Assembly resolutions are unenforceable.

The embargo was enacted in 1960 following Cuba's nationalization of properties belonging to U.S. citizens and corporations. Sanctions were strengthened to a near-total embargo in 1962.

My question is, if a majority of the General Assembly has voted against the blockade of Cuba for 22 years, straight, why haven't they just gone ahead and begun trading with Cuba? Do they actually think that the US would begin blockading the whole world? And with the loss of US standing of late will countries start ignoring the blockade now? Russia and China, at least, should begin openly to trade and work with Cuba - as should all of Latin America. I don't know, it just makes me sick...

Who goes first, and has to face the sanctions? I'm guessing that's a threshold no company wants to risk. Real risk-takers in capitalism are few and far between, despite their brave rap.
