Obama’s claim that the health bill will provide anything approaching “universal health care” is an insult to the intelligence of the American people.

It is looking as though Obamsa's "signature accomplishment", besides being disasterous for the working class will also be a political debacle for Obama. All of this bad news, regardless of being hyped by the Republicans, seems to be dampening sign up and if they don't reach 'critical mass' the whole thing falls apart. Indications are that rates will significantly jump in 2014 and people are aware of this, we've seen this movie too many times. Hard to say if Obama didn't expect capitalists to act like capitalists, entirely stupid, or if their towering arrogance led them to believe that they could put this naked fraud over on people.
Personally, I'm waiting for the site to be straightened out as I have a very low tolerence for cyber frustration. Not been insured for some years now because the cost/benefit ratio is so awful for what I can afford. Don't expect that to change, hitting 60 and pre-existing probably assures that, but I got to give it a shot for just those reasons. I do not expect to have to pay the penalty as I do not expect any offerings to meet the 10% income threshold. I'm sure many will be in the same boat.
And speaking of boats, mebbe I could take one to Cuba and get some real health care.

I got a ways along in the sign up process but hit some unexplained (ineffable) snag. According to the site I should get a $300/mo subsidy and pay about $30/mo in premium. Right now I pay $125 for shit coverage and I just got a letter stating that my current coverage will no longer be available as of April next year.

Obama was on the news last night apologizing for the lie about not losing existing coverage if you wanted to keep it (of course no one is going to be able to keep their 'current' coverage - everybody's coverage is going way up). He said his staff was working on something that would kind of make existing coverages sort of continuing with, of course, higher costs...yeah...
He never actually came out and said whether it was his own stupidity at not understanding how capitalism works, or if he just thought that the public would roll over and the Republicans keep quiet (stupid in that way, as well). I don't know who it was interviewing the Liar in Chief, but he couldn't quite keep the smirk off his face - but then, I couldn't either...

The "if you're happy with your current coverage you can keep it" line appears to have been crafted from the Bill Clinton school of "nuance". Or maybe by someone who flunked out of the Bill Clinton school.
It was premised on two things
1. the assumption that you would find something cheaper on the new market which would obviate your happiness with your current coverage (heavily dependent on subsidies it would seem, along with chimeric visions of lowered costs in the private market)
2. the assumption that your current coverage would still exist..even though it appears they were aware this would be extremely unlikely (20%..15%..less?). Its not clear if this was an intentional sleight-of-tongue or if they considered the point a minor detail to be pushed aside.
It kinda feels like Clinton roaring "I did not have sex with that woman!" and all the while Monica is under the desk..

You sure that ain't backwards? Sounds too good to be true. Last I had was going up to $300/mo, was virtually useless for the day to day and only covered 60/40 after a 5K deductable. Fuck that shit.

Well, if your income is below a certain point it actually kicks you out of the system and tells you to just go apply to medicaid (this part of the site doesn't work properly at present). However, if your estimate income is slightly above that level and within the permissible range then it seems that you get a generous subsidy.
You are talking about catastrophic coverage but I believe the estimates that the site gives are for Bronze plans with the breakdown being something like
Gold 80% costs covered
Silver 70%
Bronze 60%
(I believe there is a Platinum level of coverage as well or maybe it 90/80/70..I am not brushed up on all of the specifics).

The bronze sounds about catastrophic except they cut you a break on office visits. Forty percent of 3 days in the hospital plus procedures is enough to break most people. What a monstrous place we live in.
Medicaid, subsidies, SC? You gotta be kidding.
