We have experienced a fatal attack, this site will have to be closed. We are currently attempting to salvage as much as we can. We will return, but not here, and will see if a redirect can be posted. Elsewise the name will contain 'the bell forum'.

This site will be closed in 1 1/2 hours, I am heartbroken, but like that old fascist said, we shall return!

The old PI archives are safe at least, I still have a copy of those from when we initially ported them to The Bell. We have only been given a window of three hours to backup everything here, hopefully that will be enough time.

What happened?

Not totally sure but our webhost says that too many malicious users have been using our site to try and hack their servers (or something like that). They are shutting us down with only a brief reprieve at the current moment so that backups can be made.

Not entirely clear yet but Accuhost tells us we've been fatally infected with which to me sounds like a bad ass trojan horse. We may have to find a new landlord. We'll try to get back in action asap. Hopefully what can be salvaged can be reproduced at least in static form.

Do you think this is an attack against this site specifically? Impossible to know?

If this site has been infected with the potential of affecting this "host server" was this done to go after the "host server" or done as a means to get the "host server" to shut this site down. If the latter who has the motive to do so?

I can't believe we could lose all of the material here.

I'm gonna see what our hosts say about it , I suspect as much, same with that weird attack a month ago where shit was getting redirected like miserable user.

Yes, we definitely had some bizarre behavior during that time period. Then it suddenly and inexplicably cleared up. And throughout, tech support had no clue what the problem could be.

That isn't likely. We're not totally out of the woods just yet but I'm pretty confident that everything (or most everything, allowing for errors in the backup) will be accessible although possibly/probably not modifiable (ie archive only)

I might be jumping the gun as to what to think but I know where my first strong suspicion leads when thinking about who might want to shut this thing down.
