Jake pretends to be some internet bad boy and like Waterman over at DU puts himself across as some "voice of reason" and pseudo-economic seer when he is just a poser on all these fronts.

On economics he's an illiterate who supports uber right-wing theories and practices. He's an ardent advocate for private property who thinks that if we didn't have private property that somehow things would get messy and the evils of human nature would seize the day. This alone proves how dense this gasbag is, he doesn't even have the sense or wherewithal to take a look around him and see where things are.

As for being the "voice of reason", what an asshole. He's telling everyone how trivial the internet squabble is, and it's true, yet at the same time he's going on and on and on posting all sorts of pictures with guns, telling people what he would do if he were boss, and telling some folks to fuck off, get fucked, get fucking over it and so on. Yeah there he is, voice of reason.

As an internet bad boy how funny is that. He's a venal coward who has only keyboard bravado as his guise. How fucking retarded does one have to be to not see how absolutely ridiculous they look even trying to be some internet John Wayne. Sorry Jake it can't be pulled off by anyone, it looks stupid and certainly not by a venal coward as yourself.

I usually think that there is too much talk on such subjects. Someone gave me the power so I use it... instantly and somewhat arbitrarily, in an "individualistic" manner as the Heretic would say. Not only that, but if the power were to be taken away from me some day, then I will whine and mope and talk about abstract "principle" and generally create a drama... as I have learned to do from watching the internets.

On the other hand, I did not ban Mr. Allentown. He is quite correct... I - err -invited him. I actually called him a fifth-grade name ("poser") and implied he was undereducated. For this I am deeply sorry... but this strange combination seems to work for virtually anyone at DU.

I did this because it is my custom to "challenge" anyone who will speak well of rancid dogs like Hayek, or Menger or Mises or the Bombastic Flea. In truth, I do not know Mr. Jake any better than the Kid. Hell, I did not even know there was an Allentown in Austria.

We had that debate here - are we wasting time, should we ban them, etc.

I always thought it was valuable to debate with people and not ban them, and that if we were focused and productive we would be invulnerable to being derailed.

What is needed is not that everyone have the same opinions, but rather that everyone agree on the terms of the debate. At OET just now, they did the opposite - under the guise of talking about the terms of the debate - be polite, be respectful, etc. - they were actually clearing out people whose opinions they don't like. Some of the people there, most maybe, don't even realize that this is what they were doing. The "politeness" arguments were compelling for them and they can't always tell the difference between having their thinking challenged and being personally mistreated. Since so many people hold their political ideas as part of a personal belief system, if the ideas are challenged they experience that as a personal attack.

I hang in with situations way past the point of sanity, long after everyone else has walked away. But once I do walk away it is final and complete.

Reading some of the old PopIndy threads the last couple of days, I want to get back to that kind of discussion and put time and energy into that.

Not sure when this exchange happened or if he has been lurking in the interim but he has repeatedly accused me of threatening to ban anyone from OET on sight several times. In reality, I specifically said I would ban Saracat on sight because she specifically pissed me off. I have no beef with Jake or anyone else there. I have explained this in three or more different places over the last couple days. And even added caveats because I really wouldn't ban sara. Not in sight anyway, I'd wait till she said something here to piss me off ;)

Please make sure he knows that, and if he doesn't believe me he can reread my words on OET. Nowhere did I say I would ban anyone aside from Sara. And even that was said more for effect than anything else.


I also know he talked shit about me over there but I don't really care. I have never declared myself an expert at economics - in fact, the very opposite is true and I have no problem admitting that.


eta - I have no idea why his account isn't working, I noticed the log-in error too. His account is turned on and his status is 'normal' I would recommend him signing up again with a new (similar?) name. Or another thought would be for you to go into the admin panel, 'modify user account', change his password to something really simple and PM him the new password and see if that works.

I had to dig for it, as I was sick Thursday and Friday, and out of town on Saturday, so I missed all the excitement in real time. I think I've finally gotten a clear mental picture of the whole disgusting spectacle.

I may not be here too much, though, much as I'd like to, as the font is too small for my old eyes, I can't find a way to adjust it in the user settings, and when I increase the font via Firefox stuff runs off the right side of the screen. Still, I'll try....! ;->
