Refugees from Donbass in Ukraine
POSTED BY @NSANZO ⋅ 08/27/2018
Thousands of people were forced to flee and leave their homes and belongings in the summer of 2014 before the arrival of the war. Many did it in the direction of Russia, where they have suffered different problems, especially those related to the regularization of their situation, and many others fled to Ukraine. Although the great battles of the war ended in 2015 and many of the refugees who fled from cities such as Donetsk have returned home, the absence of open warfare has not yet brought about complete peace. This uncertainty, together with the lack of progress in the peace process, has made it impossible to begin a comprehensive reconstruction of the damage caused by the war on infrastructure.
With a peace that is not complete, political uncertainty and lack of opportunities in terms of work, thousands of refugees from Donbass remain in Russia as well as in Ukraine, many of them in unacceptable conditions.
In subhuman conditions

Lack of ventilation, mold and mildew in the rooms, lack of heating in winter and lack of assistance from the State. Those are the horrible conditions in which the refugees from Donbass live who decided to settle in the Ukrainian city of Zaporozhye.
In desperation, some of the residents went on hunger strike, although they had to abandon it due to the disinterest of the Ukrainian officials. This was reflected by the observers of the monitoring mission of the OSCE .
"On 6 August in Dnipro [former Dnipropetrovsk], the Special Monitoring Mission checked the conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in a residence in Zaporizhzhia (69km south of Dnipro). The MEM saw small rooms, without ventilation, with mold and fungi, "the report specifies.
68 families live in these subhuman conditions. And because of the lack of heating and fungi on the walls they have to pay bills. Without any assistance from the State.
"An interlocutor affirmed to the mission explained that 68 families live in the residence that, according to counted, does not have heating in winter. Some residents added that they met the economic requirements of the Zaporizhizhia Assistance Center for assistance, but had not received such assistance, probably because of the imago of invoices, "the report adds.
"In response to the difficult living conditions and lack of aid, the same interlocutor explained that ten people started a hunger strike on July 25, 2018 that has already been interrupted."
