Popular Uprising against Terrorists Underway in Northwestern Syria

Image

TEHRAN (FNA)- People in a small but key town in Idlib province took to the streets, protesting against Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) after the terrorist group arrested a number of pro-peace civilians on Tuesday.
Tens of people in the town of Ma'arat Mesrin demonstrated against Tahrir al-Sham, calling on Tahrir al-Sham to release the captured civilians.

The uprising came after Tahrir al-Sham captured 20 people on charges of promoting peace with Damascus.

In the meantime, Tahrir al-sham and other terrorist groups suffered heavy casualties in 10 attacks by unknown assailants in Idlib province in the last 24 hours.

The Syrian army also continued dispatching more troops and military equipment to Northern Syria in preparation for its major imminent operation in Idlib.

Earlier today, almost 1,500 people left terrorist-held regions in Idlib via Abu al-Dhohour humanitarian corridor, heading towards regions that are under the Syrian Army's control in spite of terrorist groups' attempts to prevent the evacuation process.

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik reported that a sum of 300 Syrian families with the total number of almost 1,500 left Idlib towards regions that are under the army's control via Abu al-Dhohour corridor in Southeastern Idlib.

It further said that the corridor will be open for five days, adding that thousands of civilians that had left their regions in the depth of Idlib province to escape through the corridor were forced to return to their villages and towns as the terrorist groups are preventing their exit.

The report went on to say that the people that managed to leave Idlib said Tahrir al-Sham terrorists are arresting men, specially the youth, to prevent their escape and to force them to join the fight against the army.

US Plots Fail to Separate Syria, Lebanon from Iran, Iraq
Posted by ALEXANDRA VALIENTE on AUGUST 20, 2018

TEHRAN (FNA)- Spokesman of Iraq’s Kata’ib Hezbollah (Hezbollah Battalions) Jafar al-Hosseini said Washington has failed in its plots to cut off Syria and Lebanon from Iran and Iraq, and stressed strong opposition to the US military deployment in Iraqi territories.

“The US project to separate Syria and Lebanon from Iraq and Iran by imposing control over the bordering areas has failed,” al-Hosseini said in an interview with the Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news channel on Monday.

“The US has understood that it cannot use Iraq as a leverage against Iran,” he added.

Al-Hosseini said that Hashd al-Shaabi and other groups which are opposed to the US presence in Iraq have the superior hand in the country, saying that the Iraqi borders should be controlled by the Iraqi forces, and the Hezbollah forces will not allow deployment of the US forces at the bordering areas.

His remarks came after a spokesman for the US-led coalition purportedly fighting Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) announced that American forces would stay in Iraq “as long as needed”, amid reports that the terrorist group is making a comeback in Iraq and neighboring Syria.

“We’ll keep troops there as long as we think they’re needed,” Army Colonel Sean Ryan, a spokesman for the US-led coalition against Daesh, told a press conference held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Middle East News reported.

“The main reason, after ISIS is defeated militarily, is the stabilization efforts and we still need to be there for that, so that’s one of the reasons we’ll maintain a presence,” he added.

Daesh’s presence has recently been purged from Iraq after the terrorist group overran much of the territory in Northern and Western Iraq in 2014.

Syria Sitrep - The Build Up For The Idleb Campaign
The long awaited Syrian army campaign to liberate Idleb governorate in Syria's northwest is supposed to start shortly after September 7, the date when the Turkish, Russian and Iranian presidents will meet. Strong forces have been put into place and are ready to strike. The Russian fleet in the Mediterranean has been strengthened, new air defense positions were established.

There are signs that al-Qaeda in Syria and similar groups will try to preempt the upcoming attack on them by an offense of their own. The U.S., UK and France prepare for another chemical incident in support of the Jihadi attack. They would strike Syrian government forces and institutions after a new fake incident would be attributed to the Syrian government.

Turkey was given until the summit to remove al-Qaeda and similar Jihadi groups from Idleb governorate. It so far failed to do so and its chance of achieving that is practically zero. Al-Qaeda in the form of Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) and in coalition with other foreign Jihadis from all over the world rules about 70% of Idleb governorate:

“Idlib Province is the largest al-Qaeda safe haven since 9/11,” says Brett McGurk, the senior US envoy to the international coalition fighting Isis.

Image

Idleb is a cesspool in which various Jihadi factions continuously fight each other. At least 290 members and leaders of such groups have been assassinated during the last four months. Hundreds of locals who talked with the Syrian government to negotiate rehabilitation were arrested by HTS. The Syrian army and Russian military police opened corridors to allow civilians to flee the area.

The Inspector General of the U.S. aid agency shut down an aid program through which al-Qaeda in Idleb was fed:

US charity Catholic Relief Services wouldn’t directly confirm it was the NGO involved but left little doubt, saying it had “closed” its operations in northwest Syria following reports of aid diversion, and had dismissed staff as it works to “further enhance” anti-fraud measures. CRS has received $147 million from USAID for projects in Syria over the last three financial years, according to the USAID website.
USAID’s inspector general, reporting to Congress, first in March and with more details released in July, said that staff of an unnamed non-profit added “fighters” of armed group Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham to lists of civilians eligible for food packages and then covered up the records. The US government regards HTS as a successor to the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front.

First reports of this scheme through which the U.S. supplied al-Qaeda were already published in 2012. It was widely known that al-Qaeda systematically "taxed" up to 50% of all food and weapon supplies U.S. supported "moderate rebels" received.

On August 24 the Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu met with his Russian colleague Lavrov in Moscow. The meeting came just ten days after Lavrov visited Ankara. The Turkish Defense Minister and the head of the Turkish secret services also met their counterparts to discuss the upcoming campaign. Turkey agrees that HTS is a legitimate target and must be removed, but it fears that they, and their families, will in the end flee to Turkey. Turkey would also like to annex Idleb and other areas. Lavrov said that the final decision about an attack will be handled by the upcoming summit:

[W]hen the de-escalation zone was created in Idlib, no one suggested to use it to ensure that terrorists, primarily from Jabhat al-Nusra, could use civilians as a human shield. Moreover, they are not just sitting there. They use it to carry out raids and shell the positions of the Syrian army. Several dozen drones (about 50) that were launched from this area to attack the Russian airbase in Khmeimim have been shot down. Today, we spoke about this in great detail. We need to do our best to ensure that this disengagement effectively takes place, and to minimise risks for the civilians. I am confident that the presidents will discuss this matter in detail.
In preparation for the general attack on Idleb the Russian Navy is building up a strong force in the eastern Mediterranean which includes several frigates with Calibr cruise missiles:

Yörük Işık - @YorukIsik - 12:38 utc - 25 Aug 2018
#Syria campaign deployment continues. 4 RussianNavy ships transited today & 13 ships during the last week.
There are some 20 Russian units at sea near the Syrian coast.

Iran's Defense Minister Amir Hatami is currently in Damascus to renew an agreement on bilateral defense and military cooperation. Damascus also asked Hizbullah, which will be the next target of the "west", to keep some of its forces in Syria. Some Iranian advisors will support the Idleb operation as well as some Hizbullah special forces. No Iranian troops will be involved.

On Tuesday the U.S., the UK and France published a statement to warn against a chemical attack:

As we have demonstrated, we will respond appropriately to any further use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime, ...
On Wednesday the 22nd a new speech of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was published. A new video of HTS chief Abu Mohammad al-Jolani showed him rallying his forces. Joining the Islamists chorus of the day Abu Jihad John Bolton warned that any use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government would be responded to with force:

"We are obviously concerned about the possibility that Assad may use chemical weapons again.
"Just so there's no confusion here, if the Syrian regime uses chemical weapons we will respond very strongly and they really ought to think about this a long time," [Bolton] added.

This was obviously an invitation to the terrorists to stage a fake chemical weapon attack as they had done earlier in east-Ghouta and other places. Those incidences were blamed on the Syrian government without any evidence and led to U.S. strikes on Syrian forces.

Yesterday the Russia Defense Ministry warned of a similar scheme:

A provocation with an alleged chemical weapons use in Syria, which terrorists are plotting to stage with the assistance of UK special services, will serve as a pretext for missile strikes by the West and the United States against the Arab country, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.
...
"The staging of this provocation with the active participation of the UK special services is set to serve as a new pretext for missile and bomb strikes by the United States, Great Britain and France against Syria’s government and economic facilities," the spokesman said.
For this purpose, "the US Navy’s destroyer Sullivans with 56 cruise missiles on its board arrived in the Persian Gulf several days ago while a B-1B strategic bomber of the US Air Force armed with AGM-158 JASSM air-to-surface missiles was redeployed to the Al Udeid air base in Qatar," the Russian general said.

There is an obvious build up on all sides for a large battle over Idleb province. No plans on how the battle will proceed have been published. The number of forces assembled will make sure that it will be the biggest battle the war on Syria has seen so far. A first phase will likely avoid the city of Idleb itself. Jish al-Shigur in the north-west and the areas south and east of the M4 and M5 highway will be the primary targets. The battle will proceed from there. It is likely that the U.S., in one way or another, will try to hamper any Syrian army progress.

Six month from now, after the Idleb operation is over, the Syrian army is likely to move further north to retake the Syrian areas Turkey is currently holding and attempting to annex. After that the U.S. occupation force in north-east Syria will come into sight.

Additional U.S. operations against Syrian, Iraqi and Iranian forces might soon come on the Syian-Iraq border where U.S. forces are building up for new operations. It is claimed that the U.S. deploys radar systems to north-east Syria which it keeps occupying. These would be useful in establishing a no-fly zone over the territory of its Kurdish proxy forces. The U:S. is likely underestimating the local hostility against this development. The 2-5,000 U.S. troops there may soon find themselves in a hopeless fight with local guerilla forces.

The US, SDF Begin To Steal 2nd Largest Oil-Field In Syria
SYRIA NEWS
On Aug 26, 2018

Recent satellite image revealed the resumption of oil production from “Al-Tanak” oil-field; the second largest oil field in Syria, that located in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor and controlled by the US-Backed SDF forces.

According to media sources, a picture which date back to August 6, showing the presence of flames at the pinnacle of the gas chimney, in addition to the number of tankers carrying oil parked in the oil-field.

No official announcement has been made from any party in the eastern suburb of Deir al-Zour that oil production has resumed in the field controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces and US forces since the defeat of ISIS organization in mid-November 2017.

Like al-Omar and Kuniku oilfields, where US forces had already built two military bases, another base was established in the al-Tanak oilfield in mid-April, the third US base in Deir al-Zour.

Why the West Rejects Russia’s Syria Reconstruction Initiative
Posted on August 25, 2018 by martyrashrakat
South Front

Written by Peter Korzun; Originally appeared on strategic-culture.org

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has claimed that the UN is deliberately obstructing the process of Syria’s reconstruction. According to him, that organization’s political affairs department sent out a secret directive to UN agencies banning participation in any efforts to reboot the Syrian economy. The document states that all contributions should be limited to humanitarian aid only. The UN Security Council (UNSC) was not made aware of the directive.

What Makes the West Reject Russia’s Syria Reconstruction Initiative?

In case anyone has forgotten, that letter was distributed last October when the position of Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs was held by US diplomat Jeffrey Feltman. This is the first time Moscow has publicly questioned the UN Secretary-General’s real authority over the UN agencies. The directive contradicts UN Security Council Resolution 2254 that was adopted in 2015, paragraph 14 of which “nderscores the critical need to build conditions for the safe and voluntary return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their home areas and the rehabilitation of affected areas.”

According to Sergey Lavrov, the US and its Western allies are making assistance contingent upon a political transition process that limits the reconstruction efforts to only the areas under their control. On July 28, Russia raised the issue of Syria’s reconstruction at the council. The Western UNSC members refused to cooperate. On Aug. 15, US Secretary of State Pompeo and UN Special Envoy de Mistura met in Washington to agree that “that any discussion of reconstruction was premature” before a political resolution could be found.

Moscow is urging the EU to contribute financially to the reconstruction of that war-torn nation in order to stem the flow of refugees to Europe. The return of about six million Syrians to areas where fighting has ended and conditions are improving would help to ease the burden on Europe and other countries. Before meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Aug. 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on European countries to help rebuild Syria so that Syrian refugees could return home, thus mitigating the migrant crisis. The issue is a huge headache for the Europeans, but their contribution to Syria’s reconstruction has added up to zilch.

The migrant exodus from Syria has become a pressing problem for the neighboring states. There are about 3.5 million refugees in Turkey, 1.5 million in Lebanon, 670,000 in Jordan, and 250,000 in Iraq. Russia is cooperating with Jordan and Lebanon on the issue. After his meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said the refuges could start returning right now, without waiting for a political settlement. Jordan is weighing Russia’s plan to repatriate 150,000 Syrians from Jordan by the end of 2018. The proposal includes the establishment of a center near the border with Syria to process the paperwork. Moscow is doing its best to normalize the situation — after all the Western countries are not the only ones who can contribute to the problem’s solution, and the UN Refugee Agency is not an instrument designed to carry out their political will.

In late July, Turkish President Recep Erdogan came up with a political initiative to arrange a summit on Syria that would draw in Russia, Turkey, France, and Germany. He even set the date — September 7. The prospects for such a summit were discussed during the meeting between the Russian and Turkish foreign ministers in Ankara, Aug. 13-14. But the only discussions on Syria mentioned during President Putin’s visit to Germany and his talks with the chancellor on Aug. 18 were those at a lower level — between experts on the region. On Aug. 17 the Russian press quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s claim that no four-nation summit will take place. One can only guess what happened, but one thing is certain — neither Ankara nor Moscow wants to be held responsible for any failure.

In a nutshell, there will be no Western participation in the reconstruction efforts until there is some progress in the political process, which actually implies that Bashar Assad should go. But the West has not done anything to make such a political process possible. The UN-brokered talks in Geneva have remained hopelessly stymied, while the Astana process initiated by Russia, Turkey, and Iran has made gains, making it possible to establish extensive areas of ceasefire, among other achievements.

In January, the Russian resort city of Sochi hosted the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, which Moscow organized to bring Syrians of every stripe together at a round table to discuss the country’s future. It has led to the formation of the Constitutional Review Commission.

Whether Assad or someone else will lead the country is up to the Syrians, not the Americans or the Europeans, to decide. The peace efforts of Russia and its allies in Syria — Turkey and Iran — have brought about tangible results. Some refugees are beginning to return from exile back to their home country — still only a trickle, but it is a beginning. Europeans have a lot to gain by contributing to the reconstruction efforts in Syria and thus easing their own local refugee burdens. For instance, the return of refugees to Syria would have boosted the popularity of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is on shaky ground back home. The EU’s attitude toward the reconstruction of Syria is another example of how Europe is sacrificing its national interests to please the United States.

IDLIB MILITANTS RECEIVE LARGE BATCH OF POISONOUS CHEMICALS WITH HELP FROM WHITE HELMETS: RUSSIAN MILITARY

Idlib Militants Receive Large Batch Of Poisonous Chemicals With Help From White Helmets: Russian Military

Image

On August 28th, a large supply of poisonous chemicals was delivered to the militants in Syria’s Idlib with the assistance of the White Helmets group in order to stage a chemical weapon provocation and blame the Syrian government, according to Russia’s Ministry of Defense.

Major-General Aleksey Tsygankov, head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria, said in a statement that the Russian military has received information from several sources in the Idlib Province that “a large supply of poisonous agents has been brought to the city of Saraqib on two trucks from the village of Afs.”

The chemicals were delivered to an arms depot, used by the militant group Ahrar al-Sham, “accompanied by the eight members of the White Helmets organization,” Tsygankov said adding the cargo was met by two high-ranking Ahrar al-Sham commanders.

“Later, a part of the load was put in unmarked plastic barrels and transported to another militant base in the southern Idlib in order to stage the use of chemical weapons and subsequently blame the government forces of employing poisonous substances against civilians,” the Ministry of Defense statement read.

Earlier, on August 26th, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that “foreign specialists” had arrived in Syria and may stage a chemical attack using chlorine in “the next two days.” RT cited the ministry as claiming that it will be filmed for international media to frame the Damascus forces.

Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said the operation is planned to unfold in the village of Kafr Zita in Syria’s northwestern Hama Province in “the next two days.” Konashenkov said that “English-speaking specialists” are already in place to use “poisonous agents.” In addition to that a group of residents from the north has been transported to Kafr Zita and is currently being prepared “to take part in the staging of the attack” and be filmed suffering from supposed “‘chemical munitions’ and ‘barrel bombs’ launched by the Syrian government forces.”

RT further cited the Ministry of Defense spokesman who said that the groups of residents will be used to assist “fake rescuers from the White Helmets.” They would be filmed and the footage would be shown to “the Middle Eastern and English-language media.”

The Russian Defense ministry warned that the US, UK and France would use the attack as a pretext for airstrikes against Syria.

Reinforcing that concern, the statement on August 28th commented on the deployment of USS Ross with 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles on board to the Mediterranean as well as the arrival of other US warships to the Persian Gulf and Qatar all of which were part of the preparations for the attack.

Even earlier, on August 23rd, PressTV cited Syria’s official news agency SANA, which quoted unnamed sources and local media, which reported that “the so-called rescue group has been particularly coordinating with terrorists from the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham Takfiri outfit, formerly known as al-Nusra Front.” The White Helmets had reportedly been witnessed doing unusual activities as information was being reported about militants were preparing to carry out a chemical attack in the areas between Jisr al-Shughur and the northeastern countryside of Latakia province in an attempt to hold Damascus responsible for the attack.

Previously, Washington warned that it would respond to chemical weapons used by “the Syrian regime” with retaliatory strikes. The strikes would supposedly be stronger than the ones conducted by the US, the UK and France in April, which also happened in retaliation to an alleged chemical attack.

The Douma attack in April was also reported by the White Helmets, who as reported by RT, are “an infamous Western-backed aid group that has been caught red-handed working with the terrorists and producing fakes to smear the Syrian government and its allies.”

Syria Presents UN with Data Proving Plans for Terrorist Chemical Weapons Attack in Idlib
Posted by INTERNATIONALIST 360° on AUGUST 28, 2018

Syria’s UN envoy called on countries capable of influencing terrorists to prohibit their agents from taking any

Image

UNITED NATIONS, August 28. /TASS/. Syria’s permanent mission to the United Nations has presented documents proving terrorists’ plans to carry out a chemical weapons attack in the Syrian province of Idlib and put the blame on Damascus, Syrian Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar Jaafari said at a United Nations Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

According to him, the documents make it clear that the Jabhat al-Nusra terror group (outlawed in Russia) and some other terrorists pledged readiness to use chemical weapons against civilians in Idlib in order to put the blame on Syrian authorities and justify a foreign military aggression.

Jaafari pointed out that in April, the US and its allies had carried out an attack on Syria after a chemical weapons provocation. The Syrian envoy called on countries capable of influencing terrorists to prohibit their agents from taking any action.

According to him, Damascus condemned the use of chemical weapons no matter the circumstances and considered it to be immoral. Jaafari reiterated that the Syrian government did not have chemical weapons and was committed to its obligations to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which had informed the international community that Syria had implemented its obligations in that field.

The Syrian envoy said that any aggression against his country would be an aggression against a United Nations founding state, as well as against global peace and security, and would amount to supporting terrorism.

Plans for provocation

Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Monday that the United States was increasing the number of cruise missiles deployed to the Middle East, planning to target Syrian government troops following a staged chemical weapons attack that terrorists were about to carry out in the Idlib province. He added that “this is another proof of the United States’ intention to take advantage of an attack staged by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham militants with the support of British intelligence agencies in the Idlib province, aimed at blaming Syrian government forces for using chemical weapons.”

According to Konashenkov, on August 25, the USS Ross, a guided-missile destroyer, entered the Mediterranean armed with 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of hitting any target in Syria. The USS The Sullivans armed with 56 cruise missiles arrived in the Persian Gulf several days ago, while a US B1-B bomber equipped with 24 air-to-surface standoff missiles was relocated to the Al Udeid US air base in Qatar.

In early April, a number of non-governmental organizations, including the White Helmets, reported that Syrian troops had allegedly used chemical weapons in the town of Douma on April 7. On April 14, the United States, Great Britain and France attacked several Syrian targets, firing over 100 missiles. The three countries claimed that the attack was a response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government.

Hama, SANA- Units of the Syrian Arab Army on Sunday conducted intensive strikes against gatherings for Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization and its affiliated groups in the northern countryside of Hama.

SANA’s reporter said that an army unit destroyed rocket launching pads of terrorists of “Turkistan Party” in al-Mashik village on the eastern part of al-Ghab plain, killing scores of terrorists.

The reporter added that the army’s artillery carried out concentrated strikes on al-Nusra gatherings in the area surroundings of al-Sermania and al-Qarqour towns on the administrative border between Hama and Idleb provinces, killing a number of terrorists and destroying rocket launching pads.

A number of al-Nusra terrorists were killed or injured and their vehicles were destroyed due to army’s raids on the northern outskirts of Khirbet al-Naqous town, in parallel with the killing of two terrorists from the so-called “Ezza Battalions” and destroying their fortified site on the western outskirts of al-Latmineh town.

Turkish regime and its mercenaries uproot thousands of olive trees in Afrin

2 September، 2018

Aleppo, SANA- Turkish regime forces and its mercenaries uprooted thousands of olive trees in Afrin in northern countryside of Aleppo.

This crime came under the pretext of opening road leading to Hamam village on the Syrian-Turkish border.

On Friday, Turkish occupation forces brought bulldozers to the western countryside of Afrin city and started to raze hundreds of donums planted with fruitful trees, including thousands of olive trees under the pretext of expanding the road between Afrin and the village,” local sources told SANA’s reporter via phone.

The sources stated that the attacks of Turkish forces aim at exerting pressure on the locals and destroying their main incomes to force them to accept dealing with the terrorist organizations there.

The sources called for stopping the crimes of the Turkish regime against the locals and their properties and expelling them from Afrin area and its countryside.
