Idlib, SyriaMilitants Surrendered to Syrian Army Say Were Trained on US Military Base

19:16 GMT 15.04.2020(updated 19:38 GMT 15.04.2020)Get short URL412014

The surrendered militants said that US instructors had been preparing them for terrorist acts and sabotage at oil and gas and transport facilities, according to the information provided by the Russian military's centre for the Syrian reconciliation.

A group of 27 militants who surrendered to the Syrian army said they had been trained at the US military base, Rear Adm. Oleg Zhuravlev, the head of the Russian Defence Ministry's centre for the Syrian reconciliation, said during a briefing on Wednesday.

The US also provided them with weapons and vehicles, he added.

"As a result of the clash, the militants who broke through lost three pickups, 27 people escaped, they are currently under the protection of Syrian government forces in Palmyra. They surrendered dozens of small arms, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, including Western-made ones", Zhuravlev said.
On the night from 13 to 14 April, a group of militants, who were trained at the US forces' base in the vicinity of the Rukban camp, tried to get out of At-Tanf area. The militants planned to surrender to government and return to civilian life, Zhuravlev said. On the border of the 55-kilometer security zone, they were attacked by a detachment of the US-backed Jaysh Maghawir al-Thawra ("Revolutionary Commando Army") radical group.

"According to the testimony of the members of the illegal armed groups who surrendered to the government, the Americans provided them with pickup vehicles and weapons. US instructors trained them to carry out sabotage at oil and gas and transport infrastructure, as well as organise terrorist acts in the territory controlled by the Syrian government forces", he said.
The armed conflict between the Syrian government and opposition groups, including terrorists, began in 2011. By 2016, terrorist forces were significantly subdued, while the government and opposition concluded a ceasefire, with Russia, Iran, and Turkey acting as its guarantors.

Militants remain in control of a small pocket of areas in the Idlib province in northwest Syria.

Armed groups working for the US hands over its weapons and equipment to Syrian Army

Image

17 April، 2020

Palmyra, SANA – Following planning and coordination that took more than four months, the authorities secured the exit of an armed group from al-Tanf area near the Syrian-Iraqi borders, with the militants handing over their weapons and vehicles to the Syrian Arab Army.

A source from the authorities involved in this process told SANA’s reporter that 28 militants and 6 drivers from the so-called “Jaish Maghawir al-Thawra” group, which works under the supervision of the US occupation forces, arrived at Palmyra city where they handed over all their weapons and equipment to take advantage of the amnesty decrees.

The source said 8 vehicles, some of which are equipped with heavy machineguns, have been turned in, in addition to 5 machineguns, 3 sniper rifles, 7 M16 rifles, 8 Russian rifles, 2 RPG launchers, and a grenade launcher, along with assorted ammo, regular and night-vision binoculars, and communication devices.

Ghannam Samir al-Khedair, aka Abu Hamza, who was the leader of the group, told SANA’s reporter that he and his fellow militants had been displaced from the east of Sweida to Daraa by Daesh (ISIS), and after that they went to Jordan and trained there after coordinating with the leader of “Ahrar al-Ashaer,” and then they were sent to operate at al-Rukban Camp.

He said that at one point, they discovered that most of relief supplies were being sold to Daesh, and after joining “Jaish Maghawir al-Thawra” they discovered that this group also supports Daesh, so they no longer trusted any of the groups and decided to turn themselves over to the Syrian Army.

Al-Khedair said that there are other armed groups in al-Tanf that want to turn themselves over, but they’re waiting for a suitable opportunity, noting that he and his group came under attack when they left the area.

For his part, Khaled Samir al-Khedair, who was a member of a recon team in al-Tanf, said there are several groups armed with high-tech weapons and drones that are being trained by the US occupation in al-Tanf area, and these groups are tasked with attacking Syrian Arab Army sites, petroleum and gas fields, and infrastructure.

Salah Rashid al-Zaher, aka Abu Odai, said that while he was at al-Tanf base, he saw military vehicles transporting militants from al-Rukban to the base to receive training, and afterwards they would be sent to other areas to carry out acts of sabotage against oil and gas wells and army positions.

He also said that while he was in al-Rukban camp, he saw that large amounts of aid would be delivered to the camp, but most of it ended up being sent to Daesh by armed groups affiliated with the US forces, while other amounts were handed over to certain individuals who would sell it at exuberant prices to displaced people in the camp.

President al-Assad to Zarif: Coronavirus crisis exposed the failure and immorality of Western regimes

Image

20 April، 2020

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad on Monday received Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the accompanying delegation.

At the start of the meeting, President al-Assad offered condolences to Iran and its people over the victims of the Coronavirus, voicing regret that this pandemic has become a subject of political investment by some states in the West, mainly the United States which continues to impose sanctions on states despite of these exceptional humanitarian circumstances.

His Excellency said the Coronavirus crisis has exposed the failure of the Western regimes as well as their immorality, because the pandemic showed that these regimes only serve a select few of individuals with vested interests, instead of serving their peoples.

Meanwhile, Zarif said the US administration, with its continuing refusal to lift the blockade on Syria and Iran, has revealed its inhumane nature to the world.

The meeting tackled the latest political developments, including the constitutional committee, the Astana process, and the developments in the north of Syria in light of the continuing transgressions by Turkey against Syria’s sovereignty and territory, whether through direct occupation of territory or by increasing the number of what it calls observation points which are actually military bases.

President al-Assad said Turkey’s actions on the ground exposes its true intentions, with its lack of commitment to the agreements it entered whether in Astana or Sochi, all of which stipulate for recognizing Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Zarif denounced the West’s current attempts to re-exploit the issue of “chemical weapons” in Syria, saying that it is shameful that this pretext would be used again in light of the situation around the world, not to mention all the doubts and inconsistencies that emerged regarding this issue recently.

The meeting also touched on means to develop bilateral relations, including economic relations and encouraging joint investments to benefit the two countries’ peoples.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban, and Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad.

In the same context, Minister al-Moallem discussed with Zarif and the accompanying delegation the historical relations between the two countries and means to improve and bolster them, stressing the need to build upon the distinguished strategic levels of these relations in all fields, particularly in light of the mutual challenges facing the two countries’ peoples.

They underlined the importance of constant coordination and exchanging data and expertise among the relevant sides in the two countries to strengthen the ability to confront the threat and repercussions of the Coronavirus and to provide the requirements for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

The two sides also discussed developments on the regional and international arenas, expressing matching viewpoints regarding all the issues that were discussed.

Moscow: Western countries, OPCW fear from discussing activity and goals of the investigation team in Syria

14 May، 2020

Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed on Thursday that countries of the west and the Organization for the Prohibition of chemical Weapons (OPCW) fear from discussing the activity, goals and missions of the so-called “Investigation and Identification Team” whose conclusions, which are hostile to Syria, are made in an unprecedented way.

“It was supposed that a session for the UN Security council would be held on May 12th through Video Conference about Syria with the participation of the Director General of the Technical Secretariat of the Organization, and the western counties had the intention to continue imposing their fabricated conclusions included in the first report of the Investigation team formed by OPCW,” Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said in a press conference through video.

She added that Russia wants to have accurate clarifications from the OPCW secretariat about all suspected conditions of collecting and storing the samples until the minute of submitting them to the Investigation team related to the use of chemical weapon in Syria.

Zakharova called on OPCW to show the actual reasons, not the fabricated ones, behind the technical secretariat’s abstention from accepting Syria’s invitation to send experts to Ltamenah town, where it was claimed that the chemical weapon was used there in March 2017.

Russia and China boycotted a closed-door meeting on Tuesday through video at the UN Security Council about the western claims of the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

New leaks obtained by “the Grey Zone “independent journalism stressed that the experts who have contributed to preparing and editing a report which was released on April 8th, 2020, by the so-called “the Investigation and Identification team” had said that the report was politicized, misleading and incomplete.

Syria: Israel Attack Against Scientific Target, No Casualties

Published 4 June 2020 (16 hours 55 minutes ago)

Israeli attacks against Syria have been constant over the past few weeks.

Syrian air defenses intercepted an Israeli missile in western Syria, a military source said on Thursday.

"At 21:25 local time this Thursday, June 4, 2020, Israeli warplanes entered Lebanese airspace and attacked from there one of our military positions in the vicinity of Messiaf," the source said.

The strike was directed to the Scientific Research Facility near this vicinity in western Hama. The Syrian Army also said that "air defense batteries immediately repelled the hostile missiles and shot down several of them."

The facility, dedicated to missile development, was already attacked in the past, and recently was restored. Even when there were no human casualties, Israeli aggression caused material damage. Early this year, Tel Aviv expressed concern about the fact Hezbollah was allegedly trying to establish production facilities to make precision-guided missiles.

Over the past few weeks, Israel has been targeting and attacking several points of the Syrian geography, something that has enhanced the unrest along the Lebanon-Israel border, but also have increased tensions between Israel and Lebanon’s militant Hezbollah group present in Syria.

During a meeting with the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council on June 3, Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab warned that so far this year "the total violations reached 374 on land, 386 at sea over the last five months alone, and 250 in the air over the last four months.” Tel Aviv frequently launches attacks on Syrian territory under the pretext of attacking Hezbollah targets.

Nebenzia slams exploitation of aid delivery mechanism in Syria by some states

Image

14 July، 2020

Novosti News Agency quoted Nebenzia as saying in a statement on Monday that “The terrorist organizations positioned in Idleb use the humanitarian aid as a tool to exert pressure on the civilian residents and they benefit from them, and there is direct and indirect evidence on that”

“In addition to that, some foreign parties exploit the mechanism of the cross-border aid delivery in Syria in a way that threatens of separating a number of areas in the country,” Nebenzia added.

Earlier on Monday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin affirmed in a statement to journalists, called for not politicizing the humanitarian aid file in Syria and to deliver the aid in coordination with the Syrian legitimate government.

DUTCH ACCOUNTANT UNCOVERS FRAUD BEHIND SYRIA RESCUE ORGANIZATION WHITE HELMETS: REPORT
By Janene Pieters on Friday, 17 July 2020 - 08:49

Image
The White Helmets rescuing a victim from bombing rubble (Photo: Syria Civil Defense)The White Helmets rescuing a victim from bombing rubble (Photo: Syria Civil Defense)

A Dutch accountant discovered that the leaders of Mayday Rescue, the Dutch foundation behind the White Helmets rescue organization in Syria, used money intended for a rescue operation for their own bonuses instead. James Le Mesurier, the founder of the White Helmets, died in an apparent suicide days after this discovery, the Volkskrant reports based on its own research.

The White Helmets is the organization of Syrian locals who rescued victims from the rubble after bombings - recognized by the white helmets they wore. The organization was funded by donations from various European governments, Canada and Qatar. The finances ran through Mayday Rescue, a Dutch foundation that also had offices in Istanbul.

According to the newspaper, Le Mesurier received 50 thousand dollars in cash for Operation Flying Carpet in on 17 July 2018. Four days later, around 100 White Helmets and their family members were smuggled out of Syria when Syrian president Bashar al-Assad reconquered parts of southern Syria. As the White Helmets rescued people from bombings by the Assad regime, it was feared that they would be in danger of captivity, torture and death in areas he controlled.

But fewer White Helmets could be rescued than hoped, the Volkskrant wrote, because the largest part of the 50 thousand dollars Le Mesurier took from the Mayday safe in Istanbul was not used for the rescue. And after that the money disappeared.

In the spring of 2019, a British accountant asked for an explanation and received receipts from Le Mesurier showing that after the evacuation from Jordan, the money was handed over to another manager, who signed for it. After that Mayday established an Emergency Operation Center in Istanbul, in case more rescue workers had to be rescued, and the money is there in a safe. The British accountant accepted this, as there were receipts and all.

But when the Dutch accountant went to check in November 2019, he found that the money was missing and the receipts were fake. An involved employee told him that Le Mesurier asked that he and a colleague sign backdated receipts. The accountant met with Le Mesurier to ask him about it, and he acknowledged fraud, according to the Volkskrant. The money went into "remuneration benefits" - money he and fellow directors Emma Winberg (also his wife) and Rupert Davis paid out every month on top of their salaries. The accountant confirmed that the 50 thousand dollars went into the books as a personal bonus for Le Mesurier and advised the man to get a forensic accountant look at the books to investigate the risk of self-enrichment.

The next day, November 8, Le Mesurier wrote an email to the donor countries, admitting that the 50 thousand dollars disappeared as a result of "fraud", but adding that there was never any malicious intent. "I take full and sole responsibility for that," he wrote, according to the newspaper. He discussed his fears for a second investigation by a forensic accountant, that this may reveal "errors and internal failures" that could play into the hands of "Russia and the pro-Assad trolls." He left the choice of how to proceed up to the donor countries, adding that he is willing to step down from Mayday if they require it and pay back any wrong expenses.

On Monday, November 11, Le Mesurier was found dead. He died in a fall from his and Winberg's apartment above the Mayday offices in Istanbul. The Turkish police spoke to his widow and concluded that he most likely took his own life.

The U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was involved in the agreement negotiations.

Syria's Foreign Affairs Ministry Sunday condemned the recent agreement between the opposition Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the U.S. company Delta Crescent, an illegal deal which is aimed at giving the White House a free hand to steal the Arab country's oil.

"This is an illegal agreement. It is nothing more than a contract between thieves and a real robbery," the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated, adding that the SDF-Delta contract "attacks Syrian sovereignty and reinforces the U.S. hostilities towards the country in this new attempt to steal its resources."

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who is allied with U.S. President Donald Trump, was involved in the agreement negotiations, according to the local outlet Al Monitor.

During the negotiations, Graham held direct and prolonged talks with SDF commander-in-chief Mazlum Kobani.

In recent years, Syria has focused its efforts on rebuilding the country from the destruction caused by the U.S.-supported terrorist groups.

"We despise the militias attitude of accepting to give to the U.S. free access to Syrian natural resources," the Ministry stated.

Syria's oil fields are concentrated mainly in the Hasakah and Deir al Zor provinces, which are controlled by an autonomous administration led by the Kurds.
