"The ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas..."
Karl Marx (1818 Germany) came from an upper-middle-class/bourgeois family.

Karl Marx
His father, Herschel/Heinrich Marx (1777 Germany), was a lawyer, magistrate & vinyard owner; his grandfather (1743 'Bohemia') was the rabbi of Trier, from a family of rabbis. His grandmother also came from a line of distinguished rabbis.
His mother, Henriette Pressburg (1788 (Germany), was from another distinguished family. Her father, Isaac (Chaim) Pressburg (~1747), was a textile merchant and banker. Isaac's father was also a rabbi, from another family line of rabbis.

Sophie...........Henriette
Henriette's sister Sophie married Lion Phillips (1794 Holland), a tobacco merchant whom Marx had occasion to borrow money from. Marx had a fairly close relationship with the Philips family; he was often a visitor to their home in his youth and it was through Philips that Marx accessed his own family's money:

Lion's son Frederick became a banker and later bankrolled his sons' business venture, Philips Electric:

The Philips brothers, Lion's grandsons, were Marx's first cousins once removed.
Marx's grandmother Nanette Pressburg was born Nanette Cohen (1764 Holland). She was the daughter of Salomon David Barent Cohen (~1732 Holland), a merchant & financier from "the oldest Askenazi family in Britain." His father, Barent Cohen (~1710 Holland), was a "wealthy (textile) merchant from Amsterdam who settled in England, where fortune favored his commercial undertakings."
Salomon's brother Levi Barent Cohen (1747) was a diamond merchant on his own account (LB Cohen & Co.), & also via consignment through the merchant banking house of Hope & Co. (Hope Diamond family, the provenance of which is another interesting story). Levi Cohen married two sisters (Fanny, then Lydia) from another family in the diamond business (their surname was "Diamant-Schleifer" = "diamond-cutter").
Levi & Lydia's daughter Hannah married the financier Nathan Rothschild (1777), a founder of the British branch of the Rothschild banking dynasty.

Thus Nanette, Marx's grandmother, & Hannah Rothschild nee Cohen were first cousins.

Levi Cohen's other children also married well. Judith married Sir Moses Montefiore, 1st Baronet, Kt (1784), "one of the most famous British Jews of the 19th Century. Montefiore was a financier, banker, philanthropist and Sheriff of London."

Two other daughters married into this family:

These families were also in first cousin relationships to Marx's grandmother Pressburg (nee Cohen). By Nanette's day Cohen descendants were ensconced in the British aristocracy and part of the intermarried Anglo-Jewish "grandees".

I hope it's not necessary to say that I don't believe jews secretly control the world, etc. etc. Those who know me from DU know that I had a "Republic of Money" series going there; ruling-class genealogy being one of my hobbies.
I didn't post this one because it wouldn't have been worth the hassle I would have gotten. I hope I won't get the same hassle here, thanks.
